Auditions for Sleeping Beauty

Jul 15, 2011 00:27

Siguard prepared the chairs in the auditorium and placed a copy of the script on each chair. He parked himself in one of the auditorium's chairs (leaving one open beside him for Arthur, after all, the Co-Director needed a place of honor. He was hoping to plunge himself into the play and hopefully it would distract him from some of his pain. He knew ( Read more... )

Matthew hesitatingly walked into the auditorium. He wasn't sure if he wanted to be in a play, but Alfred had successfully talked him into at least going. His stomach was doing acrobatics, triple axels and salchows, and he wasn't even on the ice.

He took a deep breath and walked over to sit down by his brother, picking up the script off the seat of the chair before hand. "Hey, Alfred." He said quietly.

Matthew looked around the little group, his eyes falling to Arthur and...something in his hair. He quirked an eyebrow, but didn't say anything. It was probably just a trick of the light...

Matthew shook his head and turned his attention to the script and started to rifle through it. He had no idea what part he might audition for, but he had a feeling he would likely be cast as a female. He groaned inwardly. He was certainly NOT the bright sparkly Feliks...

"Hei Mister Williams." Siguard greeted. "Thank you for coming. I'm sorry about pressuring you, but you have too many talents that could lend themselves to the theater for me to ignore you." He said. ... maybe it was a little bit creepy how easily noticed he was by Siguard, but then again, if Siguard could see invisible things like fairies who's to say he couldn't have an even easier time seeing 'invisible' people.

Alfred looked up from his script and grinned as he saw his brother sitting next to him. "Hey Matt! So you took my advice and decided to come, I see!" It was then that he noted Matt's anxious expression.

"Don't be nervous, Bro," he said, giving him a firm pat on the shoulder. "Its just a play with people from school- no big deal! And it's not like you've never worn a dress in public before! I mean, sure this time you'll be on stage, but I doubt anybody will even recognize that its you!"

Alfred had no idea that these little words of "encouragement" probably weren't doing Matthew any good, but he tried at least. Honestly, he was hoping he wouldn't have to see his brother in a dress, but with all the female roles... there was a good chance it might happen...

Matthew blinked up at Siguard from his seat, a slight pink hue coloring his face. "Uhh...Hello, Siguard. It's okay...I'm just not sure how I can be of help to you in this..."

His brother patted him on the shoulder and he turned to him, anxiousness even more prominent in his face. "I just don't know if I can get up on stage in front of everyone. I play hockey, yeah, but that's as a team. I joined the dance team, but uh...again...team. This is...different..."

He looked back up at Siguard. "Just uh...point me where you need me, I guess? Maybe something with just one line..." He swallowed and kept looking through the script trying to see if there was a character that actually really did just have one line.

"Sure; I'm ready!" Alfred jumped up out of his chair and returned to center stage. This time, he forgot to even take up the script with him- but that was ok... he was confident he wouldn't need it. Since nobody else seemed to be ready, he went by himself. He turned sideways to the audience, this time pretending to face the old man, Phillip's grandfather. "His" grandfather actually, for the purpose of the audition ( ... )

Siguard was looking down at his note pad and scribbling something down as he responded. "That was added for the cartoon, in the original story the Evil Fairy never got her comeuppance. In fact, after she exists the party she really never mentioned again. I am sorry that you're robbed of your epic battle." He snorted with a slight smile.

"Aww man, really?- that was just the cartoon?" He shrugged. "Ahh well; there's always more action in the movies and on TV; that's just how it is..." Honestly he couldn't imagine who would write a play with a hero and a heroine and no battle, but then again, the original play was probably written AGES ago! He got off the stage and sat back down next to Matthew. "At least she never came back for more revenge after the princess woke up..."

"Sleeping Beauty started out as a story, for children, as well, this is the more... child friendly... version." He coughed. "In the original story there were seven fairies and the princess was never spirited away by them for her protection, and she was promised to no prince. She grew up in the castle and when she was sixteen she met an old woman spinning in a tower, who welcomed her to spin with her. She was not evil, just an old woman. And after she pricks her finger the spell is kept in place by a splinter in her finger and the entire kingdom falls asleep and is encased in thorns. There she slept for 100 years, and several princes had attempted her rescue, all who died by the thorns. Then, a old king who is married to a horrible troll, he finds a way into the castle and sees her sleeping there... and rapes her... he returns several times to rape her. She becomes pregnant... twice and gives birth in her sleep. Then one day her youngest puts her finger into his mouth and suckles the splinter out. She awakes and the king brings her ( ... )

Peter stumbled his way into the auditorium and panted heavily. It seemed like he was a little late, Alfred and his brother were doing their auditions, and there were other people that he recognized too. He shouldn't have wasted his time choosing the clothes after all, in the end he chose the same thing he wore everyday.

Peter had never been in a play before, but Sleeping Beauty is one of his favorite story, and it sounded really interesting when Arthur talked about it, so he wanted to give it a try.

"Hi Siguard! I hope I'm not too late." He waved at the Norwegian. He had seen the guy hanging out with Arthur sometimes, and he had a troll with him. Cool!

"Hello Little Peter. Tino and Berwald asked me to say hello to you when you arrived." He said gently, checking off Peter's name on the list of people who had been interested in coming. "There are scripts on the chairs over there, if you would like to sit and wait for your turn." He gently indicated the chairs.

"Okay" Peter wanted to tell Siguard not to call him "little", but the other was really polite and all, so he just pouted while taking a script for himself. Choosing a character was a little hard, since there were too many girl's role, and he didn't want to be a main protagonist. Hmm... Maybe the King was a tad too much for him, but it won't hurt to try, right? He tried to think of the way a king would talk and act and what kind of face would he make.

"Whenever you're ready you can do your reading Peter. Welcome to the theater. It's nice to see young people interested in the theater. Young blood." He released a small, controlled smile.

Yao walked in, clutching the piece of paper with the room number on it. He sighed, and called out.

"Hello? Are you still holding auditions?" he asked.

Siguard looked up from cleaning up his papers in a moment of surprise. His fairies hadn't alerted him to someone coming. He wasn't incredibly familiar with this person, but he had a nagging feeling that the young... Man? Woman? The individual was quite androgynous, and not just in appearance but in voice as well. He'd never really met Yao Wang in person, and so he had not come to associate the face with the person who's journals he had read in the past.

He blew a lock of hair from his eyes and stood up straight. "Well, everyone else has left, but I am still here, so therefore I suppose yes. I am still holding auditions. Would you like a script- um?" He let it hang in the air as he held out a packet of papers to the new visitor, hoping this person would fill in his or her name. He adopted a more welcoming face than his usual stoic demeanor. This individual seemed somewhat nervous and he didn't want to scare them away.

"Sure" he answered as he took the paper. For a moment he mentally translated the words, and then looked up puzzled.

"Wicked Fairy? Are fairies male too?" he asked, "But if its the only part left, then I'll try my best aru" he said as sat down and cleared his throat.

"So should I just read the lines or what? I've never done this before."

"Of course there are male fairies. Where do baby fairies come from?" he joked gently. Well, the humor was subdued as was the Norwegian's natural stoicism ( ... )
