I just want to make this clear... they aren't trying to increase taxes, yet. They are going to let the tax cut lapse. Back to where it should be is not equal to increased taxes. Obama was saying that he wanted to try to save the tax cuts for the middle and lower class, but now (probably due to the election) is saying he's willing to compromise ( Read more... )

Most people feel they "know the truth". And that is the problem I think. The educational gap in America suggests most people have not developed the critical reasoning skills required to discern an accurate picture of national or even local events.

I tend to be a cynic about the masses though.

I disagree. I think that most people don't even research the candidates. I voted straight Republican last week, but it's not because I consider myself a Republican, because I don't. I researched all of the candidates on the issues. How many people actually do this? I bet not even one in five does. I almost want to say that there should be a handful of multiple choice questions on a ballot about various candidates and you need to get at least a couple of them right for your vote to count... But that could never happen.
