Life does get reduced to its basics with Christopher, which is good. He wants to be fed, he wants liquids, he wants to be loved, to be entertained and to sleep well. It is lovely after all the complexity of adult relationships

Good for you encouraging him to be bilingual. I am sure he is already quite "lingual". He's just still in his silent period. Plenty of research indicates that even very young babies are aware of the language sounds around them and in fact cry in ways that are recognisable by speakers of the same language that surrounds the babies. Rest assured - your little boy is already assimilating the sounds of two languages. He may start speaking a little later than monolingual kids do, and he may initially seem to have lower levels of competence in each language, but he'll soon work it out and outstrip the monolinguals. As you probably noticed with your older boys. Your Christopher sounds like the perfect little chap, doing exactly what he is supposed to do at his age - I so miss having little ones around.
