Original/indie art is a great idea. I went to our first local comic con last week and bought a poster from an indie artist/publisher I really liked. I put just about everything I love on the wall: shelves with knick-knacks and action figures, my Pirates of the Caribbean tin lunchbox, T-shirts I can't wear anymore, Salvador Dali postcards, etc. If you have loose photos and papers and stuff like old tickets, or even a favorite stuffed animal, go to Michael's or Meijer's and get a shadowbox frame or a gallery shelf for it. Having your stuff all over the wall makes a place really feel like home.
