I just got a wedding invitation from a friend from high school. How odd. Who would have thought that anyone who knew me back then would remember me at all, eleven years past graduation, let alone remember me fondly enough to invite me to their wedding. I always assume that superficial people are superficial only because they are too shy to reveal their true selves to me. Because no one is really superficial.

Well, first let's draw a distinction between superficial and shallow. Shallow people have no depth to them, but they don't necessarily have any particular prejudice against depth in themselves or others. Superficial people are people who care about--or intentionally come across as caring about--only superficial things, with regards to themselves and others ( ... )

That sounds horrible. The way you describe it, I'm tempted to meet this person and slowly, deliberately, talk about watching paint dry.

Sure! I'll let you know after I've made all my obligatory arrangements--transportation, lodging, any necessary extended family meet-ups--what my schedule will look like. Hopefully I should be able to arrange things so that I have some spare time.
