The program I'm using is PS-CS but I'm pretty sure it can be produced in other programs.
You don't have to follow these directions exactly so mess around with it!

Open up your image and crop and resize.

*note, you may need to have a screen layer depending on the darkness of your icon
(in this case it wasn't necessary)

Duplicate your base icon and set it to Softlight 100%.

Go to Layer> New Adjustment Layer>Hue/ Saturation
and put saturation: +25
(mess around with this one)

Go to Layer> New Adjustment Layer>Selective Color
(i know... i hate selective coloring too)
REDS:  -100    -15     0    -30

Go to Layer> New Adjustment Layer>Selective Color
(okay, i promise, this is the last selective layer)
REDS:   -100    +21   +58    0
YELLOWS:   -86    0    +44    0
NEUTRALS:   +100   0    -26   0

Go to  Layers>New Adjustment Layers> Brightness/Contrast:
Brightness: +3
Contrast: +7

And TADA!  From this:

Your finished icon won't be this exact coloring 'cos it all depends on your base so any questions?
