...and  my mom just came downstairs and told me how depressed she was because all of her children have become corrupt and none of us are good Christians and where did she go wrong raising us. And she was serious.

And a little kid at work asked me today "Why do you make mistakes so good?"

Why, indeed.

angsturbation, oh jesus god what now, rants

I've gotten that from my mother too!

I told her that she raised me to be intelligent and make my own choices and I choose what makes sense to me. I am a person, not her little pawn, and if she loved me, she would accept and support my choices.

Cough.

:(. Sad. How'd she take your answer? My mom says "yeah, I guess..." but still seems upset, like a pawn would be preferable.

I'm so glad my mom has never pulled that on me. Frankly, I think she's just as relieved she doesn't have to get up early on Sundays too.

And my dad just went to church to please my mother, so I'm fairly sure he's an atheist as well.

The funny thing is, I'm even still Christian. I'm just not Christian enough. She works at a Christian youth theater company that mostly caters to the homeschooling fundamentalist type, and she wishes that we were like the unquestioning, uncomplicated nice Christian kids she meets at work. Never mind that they're probably not that nice all the time, and never mind that they're all incredibly narrow-minded. I get the distinct feeling that she would rather I be narrow-minded and pious than curious, tolerant, and disinclined to agree with any of her values.

It is your open, tolerant and inviting personality that has helped you make many good connections and friends, so I think that makes it worth it. I know that I have always admired how open you are; I find it very cool. Thank god you're not a little pawn-ish zealot, that would be so depressing.

As for making good mistakes, I liked how my music teacher put it: If you can't even make your mistakes confidently, how can you expect to ever get it right confidently? The people who never make mistakes are usually playing it very safe.

*hugs*

When everything seems to be falling down around you, all you have to remember is that you keep walking. One foot in front of the other, one more stride behind you every moment, and you just that little bit closer to something better.

I love you, I miss you, and I really look forward to walking together for a while.

:P

I'll call you tonight. Take care til then.
