Congrats to Ali for making vice school captain. Hmm, typing on Klavier feels odd. I guess I'm still not used to using him just yet. Old habits die hard, I'm still a PC girl at heart. orz

Title What if
Prompt 020 In case we die
Pairing Zhao Yun, Jiang Wei

WIP

Perhaps, it was merely fate. Something both of them knew, that since the death of Lord Liu Bei and master strategist Zhuge Liang, the country of Shu was going into decline. No one voiced these concerns of course, everyone still had faith and were hoping for Lord Liu Chan to maintain a peaceful kingdom and rule Shu as his father had done. There were still battles to be fought of course, the final battle against the country of Wu for total control of the land were yet to begin. However, it was only time.

Jiang Wei bit back a sigh, as he packed up the various scrolls and papers. He had an earlier meeting with Lord Liu Chan and he couldn't but help but feel frustrated. He wondered wherever Master Zhuge Liang had faced these problems and he also wondered what Zhuge Liang had done in these situation. Lord Liu Bei had been easier to talk to, he had listened to advice and he had knew which battles would be won or battles would be lost. Unlike Lord Liu Chan, who voiced opposition at every turn, however he was grateful for Lady Xing Cai, she was often the voice of reason. It hurt to talk ill of his Lord. As always, he wished the Prime Minister was still with them. He had left them too soon, at the height of Shu's victories and he still had much to learn from him. It taken Shu awhile to get over their grief, nonetheless they still moved forward, hoping to achieve the dreams of the fallen.

He picked up the scrolls and exited the room. It was the beginning of a long day and it was not yet afternoon, but he was tired. Maybe he was getting old or was it something else. Perhaps he would pay a visit to Lady Yue Ying and enquire on her opinions.

As he walked to his quarters, he noticed the some of the tiger generals were outside sparring, while other officers sat under the peach blossom trees, wine and food on the table. At the moment, general Ma and general Huang were sparring, their expressions solemn as they paced around each other, weapons at hands, waiting for an opening. As much, Jiang Wei wanted to stop and admire them for their dedication, he wanted to return his rooms, however not before he cast a brief glance at the sitting Tiger General, Zhao Yun.

He was sitting there, eyes on the sparring warriors, his spear at his side. A headband of blue and gold encircled his forehead and his hair was tied back, swung over one shoulder. Jiang Wei knew that, at that moment Zhao Yun had no eyes for no one else but them. Or so he thought. So he was startled when he saw Zhao Yun turn and meet his eyes. He looked surprised, as if he didn't expect to see Jiang Wei standing a few meters away. Jiang Wei flushed, did a quick bow and hurried off, his cheeks flushing. He hoped the other didn't think he had been standing there staring, like some love struck servant girl.

Jiang Wei ended up stopping by Lady Yue Ying's rooms, before he returned to his own quarters. He knocked twice and heard no answer, so he stood there, wondering if she were asleep, when a passing servant had told him that Lady Yue Ying was in the gardens with Lady Xing Cai.

He walked up to the gardens, turned some corners and found them sitting at small tables, with various court ladies near the small carp pond. Some ladies were sitting near the pond, oohing and laughing at the fish as others threw rice. They paid no need to him as he walked closer, all attention on the fish.

"Jiang Wei," Yue Ying spotted him first. A smile lit her lips.

"Lady Yue Ying, Lady Xing Cai," He greeted, trying to ignore the rest of the ladies.

It was awkward being surrounded by numerous ladies, all his life, he had only had one at his side, his mother and then during his years as a Wei officer, he had been surrounded by men. He had not been interested in browsing the infamous brothels with officers, only content with improving himself with hopes of making his mother proud. So there were no chances to be familiar with the female sex. If he would excuse, the one time where his superiors had decided to put a naked woman in his bed, declaring that it would do him some good. Then joining Shu at the Master Zhuge Liang's insistence, he once again were in male company. However he was grateful to have met Lady Yue Ying, wife of the master of the strategist and Xing Cai, the daughter of Zhang Fei, one of the famous Tiger Generals of Shu. Even if, in the earlier stages of their acquaintance, they had tried to set him up with servant girls or the local girls in the village , believing that too much study and not enough leisure was good for his brain. Never mind that he was skilled as Zhao Yun in battle and.

"A word with you, Lady Yue Ying?" He asked, moving the scrolls to one hand.

"You won't join us for tea, Jiang Wei?" Xing Cai sounded disapproving, her fingers curled over her tea cup.

Jiang Wei eyed the tea and the empty cups beside Xing Cai and the women who were clustered around her. He wasn't sure wherever he wanted to join them for tea or just finish what ever he had come for. That was to talk to Lady Yue Ying and hurry back to his rooms. General Zhang would have no qualms with sitting with numerous women, nor any other officer really. However, he still felt nervous.

"I would have to beg your forgiveness, Lady Xing Cai," Jiang Wei replied. "I only came to talk to Lady Ying Yue."

Some of the women sighed in disappointment and others threw him coy looks over their fans, as if hoping to persuade him to change his mind. He was suddenly grateful he had refused.

"Not even if I ask as a friend?" Xing Cai asked, smiling.

"Some other time, My Lady," Jiang Wei answered.

"You know him well enough now, Xing Cai." Yue Ying said laughingly. "Once he has something to do, nothing will change his mind." She stood up, arranging her robes. "I will beg your leave then, come Jiang Wei."

He bowed and hurried after her.

"Then is the rumours true then, my Lady?" A woman asked, after the two had gone.

"Rumours?" Xing Cai asked amused.

"That the reason why strategist Jiang doesn't mingle with women, is that he prefers the company of men…" Another woman whispered, looking around as if expecting said person might pop out of now where, even though he had gone off awhile ago.

Title : Afraid
Characters Taishi Ci, Zhou Yu and appearances of WU officers

"Courting a servant girl?" Ling Tong had raised an eyebrow during one of their annual drinking sessions.

"K-Kind of," He had lied, accepting a refill from him. Would it be problematic, if he had said the person in question was male?

"That's easyyyy," Gan Ning slung an arm over his shoulder, cup in hand. "To court a girl, invite her over for some tea, get drunk and by then she will be over you. Come next day, if you treat her well, she might return your affections."

"Only you would do that," Ling Tong tsked, rolling his eyes. "Only a barbarian pirate would resort to such things." He took a sip, placed it down and gave the other a glare. "How many girls have you bedded with that technique? I'm sure I can count on one hand."

"Are you sure you're not talking about yourself?" Gan Ning snorted and leaned closer to Taishi Ci. "Don't listen to him, he's just anal."

"I heard that." Ling Tong had said dryly. "You're not helping Taishi Ci." He poured himself another drink. "As if he could do anything with your useless advice."

"SO? What are you going to do about it?" Gan Ning stood up, slamming his cup down on the table. "As if you could help."

Taishi Ci had watched the two argue, and knew it was useless to ask the two hot headed generals of Wu. "G-Generals,"

He ended up escaping before the two got out their weapons out. It was a mistake to ask them. He had to remember that next time. He would ask the young strategist, Lu Xun. However he has heard rumours that it was not recommend to ask advice from him, unless one wanted to deal with Lu Meng's lectures about giving his student ideas and secondly, tasting Lu Xun's cooking. Which was something, he wouldn't want to experience again. His stomach still hurt at that memory.

Asking Lord Ce or Lord Quan would be out of the question. As much as he wanted to ask them, he was worried they wouldn't be able to help with his problem.

He bit back a sigh. Maybe I should go back to the practice field, he thought miserably. Perhaps then, then I would feel at ease. He turned a corner and froze, almost bumping into the person he least wanted to see. Zhou Yu and Sun Ce were walking in the opposite direction, Zhou Yu's arms as always were filled with numerous scrolls while Sun Ce was carrying a bowl of peaches, a half eaten peach in one hand.

"Why do you keep mocking me, Zhou Yu? I thought we were f-" Sun Ce was saying, but his words died when he noticed him standing there. "Ah Taishi Ci!" A grin touched his lips.

"Lord Ce, Zhou Yu." Taishi Ci bowed, suddenly feeling awkward. He wasn't expecting this.

"Taishi Ci," Zhou Yu acknowledged, with a nod. "What brings you here?" He moved the scrolls to one hand.

"N-No reason," Taishi Ci stammered, wondering what he should say. He took a deep breath and expelled it slowly, annoyed at himself at acting like this.

There was an awkward pause, as the three of them stood there with polite smiles well save for Sun Ce who seemed amused.

"Are you planning to return to the practice field?"

"Not yet, my Lord,"

"Then shall we do some sp.- owow Zhou Yu, what was that for?" Sun Ce rubbed his head, a wounded look on his face as Zhou Yu lowered the book.

Zhou Yu sighed and gave him a glare. "No distractions, you disappeared for three hours yesterday." He frowned. "Three! When you were supposed to be at the meeting."

Throwing Taish Ci an apologic look, Sun Ce turned to Zhou. "I guess that didn't get pass by you Zhou? Hahahaha-" His laugh died at his friend's expression. "Fine, I will be finishing the paperwork then."

"There's hope for you yet," Zhou Yu muttered. He gave Taishi Ci a quick glance. "I hope you will forgive Sun Ce's absence."

"It is all right, Lord Zhou," Taishi Ci replied, secretly glad Lord Sun Ce would not be joining him.

They did a quick bow and walked off, Sun Ce chattering about something while Zhou Yu shook his head, an amused expression on his face. As soon as they disappeared behind a corner, Taishi let out another breath, he didn't realise he had been holding.

Had he clearly fallen so low, as to act in such a manner?

It took another couple of days for him to realise that the problem wasn't likely to go away. Gan Ning had stopped him at one point, to ask wherever he had any progress with the girl, only to have the Lord Strategist Lu Meng passing by and be dragged into the conversation.

"Old man! We need some help,"

"Gan Ning, how many times have I told you?" Lu Meng sounded annoyed. "I am not old man. Don't be so disrespectful."

"Oh Lu Xun, what are you doing here?"

"I'm following, Master Meng."

"M-Maybe I should go," Taishi Ci stammered, seeing Lord Quan in the distance with General Zhou. He didn't want everyone to know his problems.

"Is there a problem?" Lu Meng had asked, a concerned expression on his face.

He had escaped at that point.

"What did you do to General Ci?" Was the last thing he heard before he disappeared behind a corner.

Maybe it was best, if he faced the problem head on.

"Oh?"

What was he thinking?

"Yes," Taishi Ci stared at his tea cup, not trusting to look up, lest he see the other's look of disgust or worst, pity. "Lord Zhou Yu, you may not believe me, but what I said was true."

Zhou Yu refilled his cup and sat back.

"Taishi Ci, your dedication to Sun Ce is remarkable, no one has questioned your loyalty. You are one of the strongest out of the Wu generals and you have the respect of your men. No one will judge you, should you decide to act on such feelings."

"Not all will be pleased, should I show such feelings towards him," Taishi Ci said carefully, under the table, his hands clenched, fisting around his robes.

He looked up, to see Zhou Yu take a thoughtful sip from his cup. "I-I admire Lord Sun Ce, everyone admires our lord. However I do not like him any more than that," He paused, hoping the other would understand. "I swore to protect Lord Sun to the end and swore to follow his ideals, no matter where it led us." He took a deep breath. "It would be easier to say I like Lord Sun Ce..." He broke off, watching the other for change of expression.

Zhou Yu took another sip before replying.

"You can and you should, Taishi Ci," Zhou Yu said gently, as if he were calming a child over an injury. "Sun Ce may not accept at first, as he may not know what you are talking about at first..."

Taishi Ci bit his lip, wanting to scream. How hard would it be to simply tell him the truth? Surely, he was capable of that. As a man anyways.

"Lord Zhou Yu, I-I," He swallowed, hoping his courage wouldn't fail him now. "I-I know it may sound strange, but the person in question....is you." He stared at his hands, noting the faint scars. "I l-like you."

"Oh?" His tone was cool, so cold that Taishi Ci wondered if it were possible to be frozen by such coldness.

An uncomfortable silence soon followed. None dared to look at the other.

"Lord Z-Zhou?" A slight sound made him look up and he noticed the other standing up.

"I am surprised, Taishi Ci," Zhou Yu stopped in front of him, a faint smile at the corners of his mouth. "Quite surprised, so I'm impressed. It takes much to surprise me." Zhou Yu moved closer, till his robes brushed against Taishi Ci's shoes and bent down, his hair falling over a shoulder like a dark curtain.

Taishi Ci felt himself smile in return.

"R-Really?" He slowly raised a hand to touch the other's hair, marveling at how soft and silky it felt. He saw the other lean into his touch, eyes closed briefly before reopening them.

"Yes, really." Zhou Yu said before he kissed him.

It was a light kiss, a brush on the lips, chaste, but firm enough for him to feel the shape of the other's lips and to marvel at how soft and warm they were. When Zhou Yu pulled away, without thinking Taishi Ci reached out to pull him back against himself.

Zhou Yu looked uncertain, it was a rare expression, an expression that was unusual for the calm strategist. Taishi Ci suddenly felt grateful for being the one to witness it, he knew no one has ever seen the other like this.

"T-Taishi Ci? What's wrong?"

"I want to keep h-holding you," He looked up to meet the other's eyes, feeling himself go red with embarrassment. "Can I?"

Zhou Yu smiled. "There's a bed?" He gestured to the bed near them.

Taishi Ci felt his mind go blank before he felt himself go even redder, if it were possible and he stood up without removing his grip. "T-that would be nice..."

"Come," Zhou Yu tried to free himself, but Taishi Ci refused to let go and suddenly found himself in the other's arms, carried like a woman. "Taishi Ci, what are you doing?"

"I am carrying you, Lord Zhou Yu." Taishi Ci said simply, taking small steps to reach the bed.

He placed the other gently on the bed, watching the other move to a side as he sat down. Taishi Ci took a deep breath and moved closer to him.

"Come then," Zhou Yu moved towards him, grabbing him by the front of his robes and pulling him in.

Taishi Ci smiled as he felt himself being kissed again, a hand moved to the other's waist while the other reach to bury itself in dark locks and his eyes closed.

H-hahaha, this is totally not working as I thought it would be. It sounded much better in my head.
