It was slightly frustrating and endearing at the same time, to see those two. Especially, should they come across each other, without flushing red as they attempt to avoid each other’s eyes. He had to admit, it was cute at the beginning and the other Tiger Generals had thought it amusing. That Zhao Yun, the stoic general of them all was actually showing an interest in someone, even if the said someone wasn’t female but one couldn’t really ask for more, else the Heavens might take offence.

“Puppy love is all it is,” Zhang Fei had laughed at dinner one night.

“It’s good to be young,” Huang Zhong had remarked. “Better tell him to get a move on, else the protégée is going to pick up some nice girl.” He leaned towards the food, which lay center of the table, and skilfully using chopsticks, he dropped some meat in his bowl.

Ma Chao had snorted to hide his laugh.

“Or not,” The older male gave him a look.

They had eaten in silence and it wasn’t till dinner had cleared that they had realised Zhao Yun wasn’t present.

“Where’s Zilong?”

“Wasn’t he here?” Zhang Fei had poured himself another a drink and downed it.

“Brother, you have just noticed? He hasn’t been here all dinner,” Guan Yu appeared at the table, a frown on his face. “He’s still practicing, Lord Liu Bei is quite worried about him…”

“Oh?” Ma Chao asked. “Does our Lord know the reason why?”

“Mayhaps, I think he was going to ask Master Zhuge Liang…” Guan Yu stroked his beard. “He fears he may be ill.”

“There’s nothing wrong with him, he’s jus-“

“Sexually frustrated.” Pang Tong appeared beside Guan Yu.

Zhang Fei sputtered, spitting wine all over much to the disgust of the others and started laughing. “Our soldier is growing up.”

“Wipe your mouth, brother. You look like a drunkard,” Guan Yu said disapproval before turning to Pang Tong. “That was not necessary Shiyuan, you should not slander a good man’s name.”

Ma Chao cleared his throat.

“As much as I would like to defend Zilong’s honour, Shiyuan is not wrong in his assessment.” Well maybe not the sexual part, he had thought.

“He speaks true,”

“From the sounds of it,” Pang Tong had sounded thoughtful, or at least everyone assumed he sounded thoughtful. “If Zilong needs help, then we as friends should help right?” He grinned, which was hard to see considering his mouth was covered by a cloth. No one knew why he wore the mouth covering, even off the battlefield.

“Are you suggesting we do matchmaking?” Guan Yu had said in disbelief. “That’s a woman’s pastime.” He shook his head.

“It was better than my initial plan, having a wager on wherever he confesses or not.” Pang Tong continued.

“We should have taken him to the Red Light District,” Zhang Fei had tsk tsk, despite his red face and the numerous wine bottles in front of him, he sounded sober.

“We tried and it didn’t work,” Ma Chao reminded him. “Only you found the visit pleasurable, we ended up going through the town.”

“Does your wife know?” Huang Zhong asked, raising an eyebrow. “Or more importantly does Xing Cai know?”

“H-haha,” Zhang Fei had raised a cup to his lips, to cover his embarrassment. “She’s a good girl, she shouldn’t know such things exist.”

He had cowed under Guan Yu’s glare, which he tried to calm by shoving a full cup of wine into the latter’s hands. “Stop glaring at me Brother! We have our weaknesses…”

“This is proof that Zilong needs help, if he won’t respond then we must take matters into our own hands.” Pang Tong had remarked wisely.

“Or what?” Ma Chao nodded in thanks to Zhang Fei refilled his cup. He had slipped slowly savouring the taste. “We should tie Jiang Wei up and leave him on Zilong’s bed?” The moment he said it, he wished he could take it back when he saw how Pang Tong’s eyes lit up.

“Mengqi! That is a good idea, consider me impressed.” Pang Tong sounded excited. “That would be another plan we can follow, unless someone disagrees w-“

“A bit saucy isn’t it?” Huang Zhong frowned. “I must be getting old, if match making involves kidnapping and tying up a loved one.”

“Shiyuan,” Guan Yu interrupted with an annoyed air. “We will not be kidnapping the protégée, Lord Liu Bei would not be impressed if the Lord strategist decides to strike because we have taken his student.”

The table grew thoughtful before Zhang Fei piped up.

“So, what shall we do then brother?”

“Take bets?”

Everyone turned to the entrance to see Guan Ping standing in the doorway, yawning.

“What are you doing here?” Guan Yu had frowned, watching him walk over to the table. “You are meant to be resting.”

“F-Father, I was. I promise.” The younger male protested, his hands flailing to convince his father.

“So should we take bets?” Pang Tong was saying.

Ma Chao downed his drink and sighed. He was going to regret this.
