Hipster Tourism: The Childhood Home of Michael Jackson

Although I haven't posted much the past few months, I think of my LJ friends even while I'm away. Odd case in point: Last weekend I found myself in Gary, Indiana, a city famous for (among other things) being the birthplace of Michael Jackson. My only affection for the town is the compulsive need to sing "Gary, Indiana Gary Indiana Gary Indiannaaaaa, my home sweet home" thus making people loathe "The Music Man."

The song is much more pleasant than the city. It's a pretty rough place. Even the "nice" hotel has bulletproof glass separating the front desk from the lobby (which is why we stayed in nearby Merrillville).

Now that song is stuck in my head.
