I don't know if I'll ever again want to live in a place where I can't buy fresh produce off a truck or at a stand as I'm walking down the street. Just the scent of the bag of apples next to me is enough to lay down some serious happiness. ^_^

there is a farmer's market just down the street from the bakery, but it's only open spring & summer.... oh how I will miss it when it closes after Halloween! ;_;

I have rediscovered apples. My mother always got Red Delicious and they were always so soft and pasty, I never really trusted apples when I grew up. This year, there is a variety at the market called "honey crisp" and I am in love.

Are the produce stands around even in cold weather? what kinds of things do they sell?

I looove Red Delicious. :D These are more like... I don't know, like a cross between a Gala and a Fuji, maybe? The produce stands are open year round, especially my favorite one-- they just hang plastic around their tables, set up a space heater, and sit there in their coats shivering and eating hot foods. You can get whatever's currently in season, which is awesome, though the farm that runs my favorite stand mostly does apples, grapes, and watermelons. Big fruits here: apples, grapes, little yellow melons, Asian pears (huge and expensive), tangerines (and HOW), big "Jeju Island Oranges," persimmons (yo, I have eaten persimmon sorbet. It is amazing. :D). Um. You can get bananas, but I think they're imported; ditto kiwis. The other produce I usually have to go to a store for, but there's a great little family grocery (actually several) within about two minutes' walk. There you can get fresh cherry tomatoes, millions of different kinds of peppers, lots of different mushrooms, sesame leaves (used in a lot of things), cucumbers, pumpkins ( ... )
