Sixty Seconds to End
henry/amber ; pg ; +500 words ; drabble
All it took was sixty seconds.
Henry wasn’t one to believe in love at first sight. Until the day Amber Liu decided to walk into the company.
All the trainees were meant to be present for the introduction of ‘new meat’ by Lee Soo Man songsaengnim. Henry wasn’t exactly very interested, because every single introductory was pretty much the same. Just a simple speech of maintaining a proper relationship with each other - which never happened a lot - with a couple of names and that was the end of it. His eyes were glazed throughout the entire welcoming ceremony and he wasn’t the only one who was bored out of his mind because no one really cared about the new trainees.
Finally, he jerked awake when his head started dipping into his lap, just in time for one of the females to introduce herself. Her features were a little boyish and she held herself differently - more casual and less stiff. Her short hair was gathered into a small pony tail, and she wore a plain light grey hoodie over baggy jeans.
“My… My name is A… Amber Liu… I’m 16 this year.” She stuttered out. “Please take good care of me! Thank you!”
By her shaky Korean, accent and demeanour, it was obvious that she was American. She was bright and alive, eyes shining with enthusiasm even as she watched the disinterested trainees in front of her. She caught his eyes and smiled at him, seemingly thankful that at least someone was listening.
It was lovely smile, real and sincere. A smile he had been missing every since he entered the company, where everyone hid behind closed smiles and empty eyes filled with hidden intentions. However her smile hid nothing, and from that one smile alone he could feel the warmth of a girl from the States, filled with hopes and dreams of a glorious future.
Henry was hooked. That smile captured him and stayed with him, and would stay with him for as long as he knew her.
Amber plopped herself down next to him voluntarily to say hello once the introductions were over.
Sixty seconds was what it took for him to fall.

Apologies did nothing, for as Amber pulled away in tears, Henry could feel the cracks in his heart starting to form, inerasable scars.
His hand caught her wrist like how her smile had captured him 2 years ago, in a grip which spoke thousands, asking, imploring. Why?
“I’m sorry, Henry. I can’t do this anymore.” She stood and removed Henry’s hand.
Amber retreated, still muttering apologies but Henry couldn’t hear. Not as his own tears were trailing down his cheeks, his heart thundering into his ears. Going through memories, sifting through precious moments, he wondered what had he done wrong?
They were still friends, but there was that unspoken barrier that never used to be there. Amber was detached and so was he. Even till today as he watched Amber interacting with boys that weren’t him, he never understood. His heart continued to hurt, and her smiles and laughter continued to haunt him.
Sixty seconds what was it took for his heart to love, and sixty seconds was what it took for Amber to leave.
