Character Information
Name: Nill
Canon Origin/Series: DOGS: Bullets & Carnage
School Year: 4th
Gender: Female
Age: 14
Out of school living location: London, England
Blood status: Pureblood
Personality: Nill, having a quite troubled past, is shy and quite awkward in some situations. It doesn't help that she also is mute, her only possible way to communicate being through erratic hand-motions and notes written in journals or on papers. Despite this, Nill is a sweet and kind creature, willing to do everything for the happiness of those around her. She is extremely loyal to those close to her and a great listener to those who need it. Though the people around her tend to be of the darker types, Nill is very optimistic and gives her all in everything she does, even though she is very clumsy and messes up a lot. She rarely gets angry, and rarely tries to do anyone harm, unless you’ve posed as a threat for someone she cares for. If her friends are in danger, she won’t think twice before trying to save them.
Canon Background: Nill appears early in the series, running away from a pair of thugs. She happens to pass Haine, who doesn't really care - prostitutes escaping from brothels is normal in the underworld - until one of the thugs rips off the rag that she had covered her shoulders with, revealing a pair of white wings (and that she, like him, was genetically modified). Haine beats up the thugs and saves her; taking her to a nearby hotel.
Haine tries to start a conversation, with no avail as Nill in fact is mute, her voice taken away the day she had wings genetically modified into her back. She manages to tell him that she is 14 years old using her hands. Nill tries to touch Haine but is pushed away as he suffers from gynophobia and starts to slowly lose control of the monster within him. At this moment Nill's pimp, not so happy having his most prized object taken away from him, breaks into the room with some of his underlings and shoots Haine repeatedly. Nill got captured, but this time more feisty as she was angered by what they did to Haine.
At that point, Nill didn't know Haine could regenerate, thinking he was killed. Haine takes his "partner" Badou and saves her from a cruel fate, killing everyone in the house she was in. Despite having witnessed Haine brutally killing her pimp, she is happy knowing that Haine is okay. Haine takes her to the church he hangs around in, and the priest lets her stay there (dressing her up in cute lolita fashion - despite being blind). Nill then does her best to support the main characters, closing the holes in their clothes (left by gunshots), cleaning the church and being a therapist when the residents need it. She develops a close bond with Haine, eventually being able to touch him and get close to him without him freaking out.
Background (AU!Canon; HP): Dirty Nill’s parents were both wizards so ever since birth Nill has been a part of the magical world. However, her dad worked for a great and powerful mafia pure blood family and got himself and his wife killed when he made a fatal mistake in a “mission”. This happened when Nill was very young, barely 4 years old, so her childhood consisted of running around barefoot in the wet and cold cobblestone of the underworld in London, barely not knowing more than that her name was Nill and that she was a pure blood. She was taken in by an orphanage that didn’t care much about the kids and took care of her up to age 9.
Nill had grown up to be a beautiful child - big blue eyes, white skin and long, blond hair. For her 9th birthday she was then sent off to a group that experimented on illegal curses and spells. There they brutally took Nill’s voice away, literally, and small wings started growing on Nill’s back. She was sold to the highest bidder, a pimp that owned a brothel in the darkest parts of Diagon Alley. Originally she was going to be trained to become a perfect prostitute, but she ran away. Despite all the hardships, Nill was not ready to give up on the world yet. As she was chased by the pimp’s underlings she came across Haine, who saved her. Nill learnt that Haine also was one of her kind, as an incident revealed that he too had a curse.
She was taken into a church Haine knew of and entrusted into the care of a “friend” of him, the priest that worked there. He let her stay there, taking great care of her; and despite the church not being the kind a normal everyday family would go to every sunday, Nill was happy. She became familiar with the people that used to hang out there, especially Haine. On the day she turned 11, she received her letter from Hogwarts. Nill wasn’t quite certain of how it would work out of her (because of her disability) - but it wasn’t like she had any choice (the priest starting to cry and all).
Though it took some time getting used to it, Nill was taught how to use spells even though she was mute. It takes her some time to learn a spell, but since she’s a genuinely hard worker, she’s getting better. However, just because she’s better at mute spells doesn’t make her skill in classes any more decent; Nill tends to be very clumsy so her grades are just around the average. Since she’s very conscious about her wings she wears a very large sweater, probably the biggest male size she could fine to hide it. If one squints, one can see her back moving at times. Also, since she can’t talk, she always brings her journal around for communication purposes. Diana
How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: [courage, bravery, loyalty, nerve and chivalry]
If you have gained Nill’s trust, she will be loyal to you forever. Though she seems to need someone to take care of her and protect her most of the time, she is in fact very brave. It took a lot of courage from her to not give up on the world when she was cursed and sold off.
Hufflepuff: [hard work, tolerance, loyalty and fair-play]
Nill is a hard worker. She tries her best to make people happy, so even though she has absolutely no skill at sewing, she’ll do her best trying to mend the torn clothes of her friends. She would never lie to hurt anyone (unless you really, really, really deserved it) and would never cheat.
Ravenclaw: [intelligence, creativity, learning and wit]
Not being able to talk, Nill has gained very creative ways of doing things. She also has a thirst for learning - even though she lost one of her senses she can still read, she still listen to people! Though she’s never been educated before she joined Hogwarts, she’s not stupid. Her intelligence just comes off in other forms than the “academical” things.
Slytherin: [ambition, cunning, leadership and resourcefulness]
Though Nill does have ambition, she is far from cunning and has no leadership skill at all. She is however, after growing up with a lot of hardships, a little better with dealing with difficult situations.
Sample Journal Entry:
[ The writing is erratic, and you can almost tell that she’s panicking.]
... I bumped into one of the bookshelves in the common room... That bumped into another one, and another one--
Uhm...
I promise I’ll clean it up!! Just... give me some time!!
Sample Interaction Post in Third Person: [200 word minimum]
Scotland sure was a beautiful country, Nill thought, comparing it to the depts of London at home. She remembered the first time she went to Hogwarts; she was so fascinated by the birds, the landscape, the open sky, everything around her. Until she rode the train Nill had only seen such things in illustrated books. The common room was fairly quiet, the only sound being the fireplace making noises every now and then, and of course the rain falling outside. Nill climbed down from the windowsill and closed the window, as it was getting closer to bed time, and she didn’t want to get in trouble.
Some girls that had just finished brushing their teeth passed and greeted her; wishing her good night, and Nill merely waved back. When they disappeared into the room, her hand dropped. “Wouldn’t it be nice if I could wish them a good night back...” She thought, sighing. As she did, she accidentally leaned into the bookshelf nearby.
At that point, the bookshelf decided that little Nill was too heavy and tipped over, taking the next bookshelf with it that tipped the grammophon over; which again crashed into the Globe that rolled over to a foot lamp and - let’s just say that chaos and disaster happened all at the same time at that moment. Nill flailed her arms wildly before picking up books and broken pieces of glass, quickly trying to set them together -- why wouldn’t reparo work right now??
She hoped no one had heard.
They all probably did.
