Recipe logged for posterity:
Approx. 3.5 lbs orange blossom honey (just under 5 cups)
1 blood orange
1 cup undiluted pure organic cranberry juice
1 cup frozen then thawed and rough chopped heirloom cranberries
1 small cinnamon stick
a pinch of cardamom seeds
25 raisins
1 oz medium toast + American oak cubes in primary
1 packet Fleischmanns bread yeast
balance with water to 1 gallon
Hopefully the tartness of the cranberries melds well with the sweetness of the mead, and doesn't overpower or ruin the balance. Oak in primary is double the normal amount for that volume, as the reactions of the yeast during active ferment will likely diminish or negate the effects that the regular amount of oak would provide, were it to be added at secondary stage during aging. Let the experiment begin.
