I break out of my period of silence (and will probably then slump back down into it) for a question that's been rather bugging me lately
( Read more... )
to answer the questions: no, unless i was insecure / immature and no, it's not acceptable behavior. i mean, i dont know the situation, but last year i had someone bitch me out and say things like 'everyone thinks you only ever talk about yourself, and that you're annoying and selfish' etc etc. which i'm hoping isn't true. but it sucked, because then i felt two inches tall and still do whenever in the company of this person. so anyway, tell whoever said that that they should take it back. everyone can't hate you. you haven't even met everyone yet! alright this was a random comment. i'll stop now.
a donut glare for morons everywhere!meta4mixSeptember 22 2006, 08:14:06 UTC
Echoing Superswimmer's sentiment.
Some people lie and/or bend the truth (a lot) in order to make themselves feel/seem more powerful, and/or strike at places where people are most vulnerable.
This sounds frighteningly like the "The Real World" syndrome, where actual people act like the people on The Real World. If there's one thing that reality TV has captured, it's humans' tendancy to be real dickshitters. When dorama arises, people lose a lot of their decency and pull bullshit like this. When someone says that to you, punch them in the face for being a tool.
I probably would not, unless I really believed it was true, but even then I would probably hedge and say things like, "Well, everyone else seems to be annoyed with you too . . ." But then I tend to not really ever use the word 'hate'.
If the person doing it either 1) does not actually believe the statement (that "EVERYONE HATES YOU!!!!") or 2) is doing it primarily out of spite/pettiness/maliciousness, I think it is unacceptable.

Totally! Based on my schedule this year I don’t think I’ll be on lj much either. I’ll shoot you an email sometimes.
Whoever said those horrible things to you was a douche.
Nod.
Smile and have a great year!
