if you include excerpts of the story in a protected journal entry, then it's technically not a violation of first publication rights. A friend-protected entry would be the same basic thing as just showing a manuscript to a couple of your buddies in real life, only it would be over the internet. so you actually could "publish" it if you wanted to, as long as only certain people saw it.

Well, what else is being stuck with your parents for days on end away from school good for, other than being an excuse to spend whole days writing? Well, maybe just 'most of the day', since they would probably require that you make, as a minimum, occasional forays into making at least a semblence of participating in family interactions.
