entering the modern world

Just bought a smartphone (well, got it free with the 2 year contract), after *mumble* years on a pay as you go plan. The monthly bill (even rolling over my unused balance) is going to be a shock after $15/month and never using up my minutes. I got a Palm Pixi Plus (the Pre was noticeably slow just playing with it in the store) and it has a hard ( Read more... )

what kind of Canada plan is offered for your phone? The Storm is a GSM phone so it's covered under their Global Traveler program but the Pixi being CDMA it seems to be supported by their GlobalAccess plan ... which comes out to, like, $2/MB of traffic (I like that ultra clever marketing spin of only $.002/KB! ... err ... thanks, Verizon)

They said if I put it on the phone on a monthly basis, it would be an extra $19.99 for voice, plus an extra $34.99 for data, but it will be prorated for the days it's on. If you don't add the plan it will be roaming for both voice and data, $0.69/minute voice and he didn't quote me the data rate.
So, prorated over July it comes out to $1.77/day or just over $5 for three days.

Gah, gmail's documentation on .csv file format is ... lacking. Had to create a new contact and then export it to get the headings.

$1.77/day isn't bad at all. I think that's about comparable to the GSM plan. Which reminds me that I need to flip that on myself.

i will be interested in your experience with that. we are probably going to ditch AT&T in a few months when our contract is up, and Matt may abandon the iPhone at that time. I have a Palm Centro now that I mostly really like, and have been eying the Pixi and Pre. I really prefer the fixed keyboard and layout of the Palm to the iPod Touch (which I have).

I'll try to remember to ask you the next time I see you.

Smart phones aren't really phones anymore They're a digital camera/camcorder, mp3 player, GPS navigator, web surfing, video playing, bar code reading price comparing instant messaging, mini computer.

I paid $230 for my HTC My touch slide, but all the things it has would cost me about $500+ if purchased individually. They save money in the long run, so long as they keep the unlimited data packages cheap, especially with all this wifi connectivity.

Gene Rodenberry could've never envisioned a future gadget like these.
