I'm no angldst but I've made good progress on my saloon girl costume this week. :) I just have the bias tape around the neck and arms, and the beaded fringe along the lower edge left to do on the bodice, and I have vauge hopes of finishing at least the bias tape tonight. When we flew to Ireland last November we took carry-on only and both packed umbrellas. Security asked us to fully open them each time we went through (or they did it themselves), but they were ok for carry-on after that.

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm mostly worried because there's a bit of a point that sticks up out of the canopy.
