I promise not to get too bogged down about my fitness goals in this blog, but I want to go ahead and take stock right now. I am 25 days in to exercising every day, and about a week in to my new diet.
Today marks the second day in a row that I was able to run in place for 21 minutes without stopping. I'm close to working up the courage to try running for real, outside. At the moment I'm using my ankle as an excuse to hold back, but as soon as my physical therapist clears me to stop seeing her, that excuse will be gone. Hopefully by then I WILL be ready.
The altered diet has been hard. I have completely cut out caffeinated beverages, although that wasn't too hard since the only one I drink on a regular basis is unsweet tea. I have drastically reduced my carb intake, and the crash absolutely kicked my ass last week. I have also substantially upped my protein intake, mainly by eating sausage and eggs for dinner more nights than not. My fruit and vegetable intake are not quite where I want them to be yet. The whole "salad for lunch" thing lasted a grand total of one day, and now all the lettuce I bought is moldering in my fridge. I'll try again when I get back from vacation. I'm still allowing myself the occasional sweet, but in much greater moderation than I used to. My nightly cocktail counts as "dessert" most nights.
I haven't gotten on a scale yet, because I'm afraid the number won't be any lower than it was last time and it'll discourage me to the point of giving up. BUT, I've noticed that certain places where I carry excess weight are noticeably smaller than they were on New Year's Day. So that's gotta be a start, surely?

California Barbie
2 oz Malibu coconut rum
6 oz lemonade
I cheated. I used Captain Morgan spiced rum, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Still quite tasty, though.
