K-Drama: Coffee Prince

Oh my heart. I'm so into this drama. Out of all of the ones I'm watching right now (and there are a few), Coffee Prince is up top followed by Que Sera Sera and then Why Why Love. The potential makes the drama addict in me impatient for English subtitles.

It's another "girl pretends to be boy", but I think it owns both the Taiwanese and Japanese versions of Hana-Kimi. Yoon Eun Hye makes an oddly cute boy. I think she'd win me over the two Hana-Kimi girl!boys, Ella and Mika. I liked YEH well enough in Goong, but the character Eun Chan has endeared her to me. One thing I've noticed is unlike the other girl!boys, Eun Chan is genuinely tomboyish, it's a part of her. I know YEH's doing something right, 'cause I am completely invested in the character.

Gong Yoo, who plays the male lead, has grown on me a lot. I saw him in Hello! My Teacher and K-Movie She's on Duty before this and thought he was a pretty good actor and cute in his own way. He has a boyish face, but is well-built (I've gotten used to seeing many a lanky and lean lead). Kind of like Rain, now that I think about. Haha.

Randomly: One of the Coffee Princes is Kang Tae Bong's best friend from Dal Ja's Spring! He plays a similar character: "the cool, detached pretty boy" as someone else put it. It's dead on. I just thought he was cool and unbelievably pretty, so I was happy to see him again when he rolled onto the scene. ^_^*

I hope CP continues impressing 'til the end. It could very well be a favorite.

J-Drama: Hana-Kimi

Hana-Kimi [J] also started airing this July. [J] is taking the story in another direction, which is nice - who'd want the same exact story, but the atmosphere's been boring me a little. There's no spark. As much as I'm excited Oguri Shun (Hana Yori Dango's Rui, The Rui, My Love Rui) is playing lead and thinking Horikita Maki's Ashiya is pretty and sweet, it's not working. Ella and Wu Chun had amazing chemistry, took me by surprise, actually. Sometimes the way he would look at her... love. Even if [T] was over the top at times, as many Taiwanese dramas can be (it's part of their charm, I think :), I took it in. I'm going to keep my eyes open for [J] though. Episode 3 gave me the impression things are going to pick up.

K-Drama: Que Sera Sera

QSS is a serious drama. It was sweet and cute in the beginning, but after a certain point the angst, bitterness, and frustration -- it's all there boiling in a huge pot and you're just waiting for the ugly mess to blow up in your face. It twists up the usual Korean drama elements, so it's not as predictable; I have a feeling this is not going to end in the "ever after" fashion. They'll be walking away damaged, but their choices firmly made. I could be wrong, but I just have this unsettling feeling.

T-Drama: Why Why Love

WWL tickles me. It brings back several of Devil Beside You's cast, most notably the three leads Mike He, Rainie Yang, and Kingone. That was almost enough for me, but so far it's proving better than DBY in my opinion. The acting has improved and it doesn't seem as rushed as I thought DBY was in the beginning. The writing seems to have taken a step up too, and the goofy faces and expressions aren't as prevalent or when they are, there's a good reason for them. I have a terrible, terrible weakness for romantic comedies.

And how lame am I, I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to decide whether to bold or italicize the drama titles.
