Face washing accident
(it was a dry winter so my nose was weak and I was washing my face then looked up after a minute and saw what had happened)

Can't you just use your landing VISA as an American, then worry about it later? (it might mean a flight to Taiwan and back...)

I don't mean do this as your main plan, obviously you should try to get the VISA. I'm just saying, if all goes wrong you can just go and have to leave the country a couple of times.
