This poem was beautiful. It's funny, because I saw that you had written something and immediately turned off the music that I was playing so that I could give all of my attention to what I was reading. I respect your writing and admire it. It has depth and, especially in this poem, it touches me and offers me something that I can compare to my own life. In some African funeral ritual ceremonies the line between grieving and performance is completely blurred. They use masks and play stock characters, essentially, as part of the funeral procession. Entire villages participate in songs and dances of mourning.
I am grateful to the powers that be that you have poetry as an artistic outlet of expressing this place in your life. I am more grateful that you have posted it publicly, giving others a chance to hold on to you, perhaps when some need that support as much as you do.
And I hope someone gave you a hug today without you asking for it.
