If you have to take such a dangerous path, why not do it with people you know and trust at your side instead of with strangers who have not yet proven to be worthy of any trust bestowed on them?”

“Because this is not my path,” Aragorn replied. “It is Frodo’s path, and his Quest. I will merely be one of his guardians, not the one to be guarded.”

That's a good question, and a marvelous answer. I enjoyed reading this 'gap filler' very much.

Hi there! :) I'm very glad you enjoyed reading this story! I found it very interesting myself to explore the reasons Aragorn might have given to Halbarad to justify his decision of joining the Fellowship. It really can't have been easy for Halbarad or any of the Dúnedain to accept that Aragorn had to go on such a mission.

I'm so glad you liked it! :D I have to say I really loved reading your Halbarad-Ivorwen drabble - it was as if I had my own vision of Halbarad staring right back at me. *g* I like Halbarad when he's being stubborn. ;-) Where the peach pie is concerned, I'm still blaming Cairistiona for that. LOL!

Hehe, that's exactly what I thought when I read this right after I'd finished that drabble! =) Stubborn Halbarad is a good thing indeed.

And I'll say it again because it bears repeating...noommmmmmmm peach pie =D.

This was awesome!

I have never, ever read a gap-filler before about Halbarad's response to Aragorn in the Fellowship- and certainly never in film-verse! Halbarad, after all, would be much more worried about the film's version of the whole Fellowship going to Mount Doom, while in the book Aragorn was going to go to Gondor with Boromir. And Boromir was less 'I don't like you' in the book, haha. But that makes this all the more dramatic and awesome. I really like how you wrote Halbarad- it fits with Cairistiona's Halbarad, which, of course, makes the mention of Denlad appropriate XD Thanks for the great read, I enjoyed it!

I'm so glad you liked it so much! :D

I've never read anything about Halbarad's reaction to Aragorn joining the Fellowship, too, and I still have no idea where the inspiration for that fic came from. ;-) I've got to say it was fun to write, though. I considered making this bookverse, but it really would only have been half of the fun - the way the events unfolded in the movies provided so many nice reasons for Halbarad to rant and fret to his heart's content. *g* That my Halbarad reminds you of Cairistiona's Halbarad makes me feel honoured - hers is still my favourite version of Halbarad! Thank you for reading and reviewing! :)

A great read, Almut, and you raise some interesting points. I never imagined that Halbarad was in Rivendell with Aragorn after the decision for him to accompany Frodo had been made but, if he had, I can just see the conversation going something like this!

Thank you, Inzilbeth, I'm very glad you enjoyed this story! :) I have to admit I never imagined that Halbarad was in Rivendell after the Council of Elrond and before the Fellowship left, too, but for some reason Halbarad suddenly insisted on being there. *g* I guess he finally wanted a chance to tell Aragorn exactly what he thought of his joining the Fellowship. ;-)

This was exactly the kind of gap filler I expected from you. It's a most perceptive and thoughtful one, and I can just imagine Halbarad acting like he does in your story. It's a lovely story.
