Gravity.

Have you been getting cursed a lot lately?

Not particularly, but my behavior the other day was... shameful. I swore and blasphemed the gods, and threatened two individuals who appeared out of nowhere in my room. The latter might be understandable, but hardly becoming behavior.

What is gravity? I'm not familiar with the concept. The whole idea of a round whorl is so strange...

If it was a curse, I'm sure they'd understand. Or they will soon, once they have a taste of them themselves.

It's the force that pulls two objects together, kind of like a magnetic pull... that is, if you're familiar with the concept of magnets on your whorl?

Still, it's only right for me to apologize to them. As for the blasphemy... I should hope the gods will be so forgiving.

We have magnets, yes. It's just, I've always heard that, were we on the outside of the whorl we'd fall off; it's hard to fathom that this isn't the case for your whorl. On the other hand it brings some light to why people say we used to live "outside," when we were on the Short-sun whorl. Still, it's... a surprising concept.

Curses do those sorts of things. I'm sure no one will hold it against you.

I sincerely hope not; nonetheless, it seems appropriate to apologize to them.

I gather you're affected today, Rain? Did you end up trying to fly?

Yeah, I always think it's important to apologize.

And yes!! Iron Man helped me. He can control the suit even when he's not in it!

That sounds absolutely thrilling... Though I must admit I don't comprehend how a man of iron-- or a woman, rather-- could fly. I thought flight required a lighter-than-average body weight. Though of course, I know very little about Fliers.

Oh, so it was the curse. He sounds a lot more understandable now.

It's alright, really! After all, it did kinda make sense; it was really unexpected and suspicious. Plus you didn't actually hurt us.

Oh! But I didn't catch your name.

I know, but I very well could have... Thank all the gods I didn't actually shoot you, I don't know what I would do if I harmed you, even under the influence of a curse.

My name is Silk; Patera Silk. It's a pleasure to meet you under these... less strenuous circumstances.

Y-Yeah. I'm really glad you didn't shoot us, too.

Mm! It's nice to meet the real you, Mister Silk!

You don't need to call me Mister; Patera's the appropriate title, but you're welcome to drop it and just say Silk. Most people do, here.

Did you and your friend get home safely, after you left?

It doesn't matter. I didn't get most of what you said anyway.

I can imagine. I found it rather confusing when I came to the quarter I now live in, though I've become accustomed to it now. Nevertheless, I was unpardonably rude to you both.

My name is Silk; I don't think I ever introduced myself.

It's not unpardonably rude if no one cares.

... Silk. That's cloth, isn't it?

Being threatened didn't bother you, my son?

Yes, a soft cloth, woven from fibers made by a small caterpillar.
