Given the reputation this month has for dangerous curses, this weather is most unsettling. I haven't ventured outside-- it's like a wall outside my window, and though I've more or less gotten used to this place, I wouldn't trust myself to find my way through Viron in such conditions ( Read more... )

duck is not for sacrifice, curious augur is curious, guide us high hierax, curse: affected, what in the whorl, the fog, ducks are our friends, tenebrous tartaros

Traditions carried from days of old. In years past, October and September indeed numbered eight and seven. I think 'twas in honor of ancient kings that months were added.

Ah? I see. The divisions of months here are not unlike mine, but the names differ.

My thanks for the information; from time to time the culture of this whorl still puzzles me.

And what names, sir, dost thou give?

'Tis greatly puzzling in many ways, this city.

We call them after our gods, who are unknown here; no one else from my whorl is in this city.

It is a strange place, and stranger today than usual. I cannot say whether this is a curse, or merely strange weather, but I would be lying if I said it didn't worry me. Are you a recent arrival to this place?

Tenebrous Tartaros is the patron of thieves, god of night, and of concealment; today is Hieraxday, his brother's day, but as I can barely see, it seems more suited to Tartaros.

If such things even matter, here; that I cannot say, Caspian.

I think so; though it's disheartening that even I sometimes think of it as only a story. We say, where I am from, that all but one of the gods reign only inside our whorl; yet I never expected to have to test that concept myself.

Is it often so hard to see, in London?

Maybe not quite so thick.

I should hope not; else I'd have to ask how you ever managed to get anywhere.

Are you somewhere safe, Lucy? I keep seeing-- well, perhaps it's only my imagination.

I'm still at the Library. On the roof right now. I don't think I'll try to go back to the house people built.

Tony-

He said that you made protective symbols there for me. Thank you.

It was no trouble, Rain; I was glad to do it.

They're beautiful. It's all beautiful. My little sort-of house in a hill.

I feel like a hobbit!

I'm not sure what a hobbit is. But I am glad that you like it. I think it rather suits you.
