[Police Force Filter]

I feel able to come back on active duty now. The wounds I bore were minor in any case, and I feel eager to make myself useful.

[/Police Force Filter]

This city is truly an odd place. I never appreciated it as much before, but upon discovering that there are people to whom you are a part of history? It is a peculiar feeling

avoiding grief, honnoji, avoidance tactics, ignoring the issues, a traitor, history, policework

Mitsuhide-dono. Welcome back. This unworthy one had not had the chance to say so until now.

Kenshin-san. I cannot believe it has been a year for me. It is good to see you again.

This unworthy one understands. The first time he was sent back to his world a good four months passed there while only a few days here. It is... an odd feeling to grasp on return.

Saa, it is good to see you again as well. And it is good to know that Megumi-dono is whole again. At least until you leave again.

It is. Finding my feet again has taken a while, but I am adjusting far more quickly than when I first arrived.

Of course, if you feel ready. But you should have mentioned if you were wounded, we have healers for that.

Thank you.

They were far too minor to bother the healers for, and besides, I think it reassured my wife that she could treat them.

Ah, I see. Then that was probably for the best, then. Anyway, I'll look forward to seeing you again! I'm on a bit of a break myself, right now.

[Megumi moves to embrace Mitsuhide from behind, gently wrapping her arms about him and holding him close.]

Mitsuhide, anata . . .

[Her voice is soft and warm.]

History? . . . Mmm.

[She pauses, smoothing his hair with a gentle hand. She understands why it would feel peculiar to him.]

[Moving to face him, she embraces him once again, wrapping her arms about his shoulders and looking softly into his gray eyes.]

Yes, you are a part of my Japan's history. A hero.

But what is important to me is that you have shared yesterday with me in this City . . . and most important of all, you are a part of my present, and will always be a part of my future, as the man and the husband that I love so much. And that is a past, a present, and a future that is not just mine, but ours. Yesterday, today, tomorrow--ours together, in happiness and in love.

[Hero? No, he is a traitor. His reasons do not change that. Mitsuhide shakes his head a little.]

Part of his history, but...

[A short sigh, and he rests his arms around her waist. It does not even need to be said.]

A present and a future is what matters now, love.

[A brief pause.]

I am 25 now. It seems there is now a small age gap between us.

[She raises a hand to his face, cupping his cheek gently.]

Yes, Mitsuhide, anata . . . a present and a future together you. Always with you. ♥

[Megumi tucks her head beneath his chin for a long moment, holding him close, embracing him tightly, before his last statement makes her glance up at him once again.]

25?

[Her mouth forms a small "o" of surprise.]

You're two years older than me right now, anata!

[She lets out a small gasp, before laughing softly.]

I am indeed.

[Despite himself, he cannot help but smile a little. Her laugh is soft and musical on his ears.]

The time in this place works so oddly, doesn't it?
