Police officers are as subject to the law as anyone; we should be held to the highest scrutiny.

I completely agree, which is why any brutality I see will be stopped. This curse seems to be bringing a lot of that kind of thing out.

We'll see about that. The law-abiding citizens of any state must be protected from abuse from any quarter.

I am not going to harm law-abiding citizens, nor am I going to even use violence on those who prove to not be 'law-abiding today' unless they seek to use as such against me. I will simply do my job, which is to protect.

Another for vigilante justice? I hope this isn't the new fad.

Not vigilante, but any officers seen brutalising on my patrol will be brought in. Unless you suggest I allow it to continue?

I suggested no such thing. Vigilance is one thing... vigilante is simply another.

I am perfectly aware of that.

[When Megumi's voice comes on, she sounds anxious and frustrated.]

Be careful out there, Mitsuhide. I don't know what's happened, but it seems corruption and lust for power are rampant today.

[A lengthy sigh, worry now laced into her voice.]

Oh, anata . . . please be careful . . .

[A sigh.]

It's a curse, Megumi, and one I wish I did not have to handle today. But handle I must.

[A slight pause.]

Are you going to work today?

Mmm. Yes, love. I just hope that we will receive no cases due to police brutality. I know you will stop such people in their tracks . . . but please take care, Mitsuhide.

When you're out there, anata, just call me if you need me, ne?

[Another sigh.]

The Meiji government and its police force was corrupt enough . . . people shouldn't have to live in fear anymore of the institutions built to protect them.

Watch yourself on the streets, alright? In fact, wait there and I'll escort you. I have a bad feeling about today.

[A sigh.]

Indeed. Today brings back bad memories in my case as well...

We deserve better. They don't appreciate the things we do, so I'm going to make them appreciate it.

The point in this job is not to get appreciation! If you make them appreciate it, you're not doing the job!

Hmm. No. I really want all that appreciation now. In the form of bright coins, among other things.

Those who cannot protect themselves should not have to pay to feel safe.

Why's it gotta be a curse? You get bad cops where you come from too, right?

silk_in_ebony July 15 2008, 16:24:18 UTC
...corrupt 'cops?' In a... way, yes, we do. But this today IS a curse. Certain members of the force are acting very differently to usual and there are far more policeman around than there usually are.

fun_in_here July 15 2008, 16:28:25 UTC
Huh.. So what, you think they'd shoot a guy for loiterin', or somethin' crazy like that?

Reply

silk_in_ebony July 15 2008, 16:33:18 UTC
I do not know how far they will go, but expect anything. One member of the force has threatened to attack any member of the public she encounters who does not give her money.
