florence + the machine | rabbit heart 【 puella magi 】
you made a deal, and now it seems you have to offer up
but will it ever be enough? (raise it up, raise it up)
it's not enough (raise it up, raise it up)
here i am, a rabbit hearted girl
frozen in the headlights
it seems i've made the final sacrifice
azure ray | no signs of pain 【 madoka 】
standing in front of you
they fade into the wall
and leave behind nothing
nothing at all
i know i don't understand how they forget
how some will just pass us by
and take what they can get
i know i don't understand how weightless they must be
without feeling
kevin devine | all of everything, erased 【 homura 】
this is the window where
i watched the future start
my pupils dilated
the shock sped up my arms
i shut my ambushed eyes
and turned my face towards the heat
. . .
i watched my lover chased
through fields of sugarcane
she clutched her belly close
she whispered, "keep us safe"
they ground her down to dust
no more miracles today
joanna newsom | cosmia 【 homura to madoka 】
water wet her limbs, fire warms her hair
see the moonlight caught her eye
and she rose through the air
well if you see true light, then this is my prayer, oh;
will you call me when you get there?
and i miss your precious heart
and i miss your precious heart
the veils | talk down the girl 【 sayaka 】
so little knowledge known to me
so little colour left to see
but black and white
black and white
a silhouette at seventeen
if they can find what's left of me
i´ll burn the fire
burn in the fire
my love was strong
for now it's gone
mumford & sons | the cave 【 sayaka & kyouko 】
it's empty in the valley of your heart
the sun, it rises slowly as you walk
away from all the fears
and all the faults you've left behind
the harvest left no food for you to eat
you cannibal, you meat-eater, you see
but i have seen the same
i know the shame in your defeat
but i will hold on hope
mumford & sons | little lion man 【 mami 】
weep for yourself, my man
you'll never be what is in your heart
weep little lion man
you're not as brave as you were at the start
rate yourself and rake yourself,
take all the courage you have left
wasted on fixing all the problems
that you made in your own head
esthero | heaven sent 【 mami // "even you... and even me..." 】
you looked her in the eye
and i watched her cry
and my mouth went dry
everyone is going to have to die - sometime
one republic | marching on 【 puella magi 】
we'll have the days we break,
and we'll have the scars to prove it,
we'll have the bonds that we save,
but we'll have the heart not to lose it.
. . .
there's so many wars we fought,
there's so many things we're not,
but with what we have,
i promise you that,
we're marching on.

notes.
☇ I made this mix in the weeks after the airing of the last 2 episodes were postponed. It's gone through several revisions; I've put in songs, taken them out, put them back in, rearranged the order etc. etc. This was actually finished before the finale but I was having trouble with designing the tracklist. The finale has come out since then and I'm actually surprised with how well many of the song choices held up and how some are even eerily prescient to how it played out (the Homura songs specifically!) I'm satisfied with how it turned out or it might just be my laziness talking.
☇ This is my first fanmix actually! Which is why you get these tl;dr notes. I'm ~*~full of feelings~*~
☇ RABBIT HEART - this was actually the first song chosen for the mix like way even before I thought about really completing it. It was originally meant to be the song for Mami since the lyrics worked well with the episode 3 events (I even used them for RP keywords) but as the series went along, it became clear that it worked for all the Puella Magi. iirc there's been another mix that used it and in fact there's an absolutely gorgeous
fanvid of the series to the song.
☇ NO SIGNS OF PAIN - this is the one song that post-finale I'm not so happy with anymore. As Madoka's choice eventually put a bittersweet tone to the series, a less bleak song would have changed the tone of this entire fanmix. I hadn't seen the finale yet so for the most part this song choice reflects how Madoka has had to watch the fates of her friends. In light of episode 10, GARdoka and GODoka it doesn't fit as much now. Maybe I'll change it, maybe I'll add something else...
☇ ALL OF EVERYTHING, ERASED & COSMIA - Check out the full lyrics to
All Of Everything, Erased! I picked out the lines that worked for Homura a long time ago but then the finale came out and now the whole freaking song works. I was actually worried about Cosmia because 'and you rose through the air' seemed to imply something I wasn't sure the series would go with... and then it did. lol I don't even know guys.
☇ TALK DOWN THE GIRL & THE CAVE - yeah there are no solo Kyoko songs in this... which is weird because she's actually my favorite! This is probably because a lot of what I love about her is tied into how her story eventually played out (with Sayaka). Actually you know when I said that I took out a bunch of songs? They were all Kyoko to Sayaka songs. I decided to just remove them from the mix because it got like nuts and was all TO HECK WITH IT I'll just make a mini-mix for Kyoko -> Sayaka. I did have a Kyoko song but it just didn't work for me, in the end. And then I was like. THE CAVE! Which was a song that seemed very from Sayaka to Kyoko so I felt better about just not having a Kyoko song. I'd say that one fits her pretty well anyway?
☇ LITTLE LION MAN & HEAVEN SENT - lol idk guys when I decided to use Rabbit Heart as a general Puella Magi song I drew a blank for Mami for ages. Even with Little Lion Man I'm still not entirely satisfied because I don't think it melodically fits her because Mami has a very. specific image. I'm happier with Heaven Sent which as the quote implies is my song for Mami in Homura's 3rd timeline iteration. Puellacidal!Mami is my favorite Mami.
☇ If I hadn't removed Awaken My Soul I swear this mix would have had entirely too much Mumford & Sons. ...can you have entirely too much Mumford & Sons?
☇ not appearing in this mix, Pretty Girls Make Graves neither the song nor the band.

BACK COVER. If you know the source for the front cover please let me know sob.
☇ MARCHING ON - I didn't have trouble picking this song. I had trouble convincing myself to keep it. It was my second song choice after deciding on moving Rabbit Heart to a general song and I wanted to bookend the mix with another general song. I was undecided on whether to keep it because thematically it might not have worked with how the series ended. As of episode 10, things were looking HELLA DEPRESSING for Homura and for the show. But no matter what I did I couldn't find/choose a song that would fit a bleaker end and I guess that's because I was hopeful that there could still be a positive ending to the story. So with this song I was choosing to be optimistic with the outcome, even if the finale ended with like MADOKALYPSE.
"If someone tells me that it's wrong to hope,
I will tell them they're wrong every time."
