While I support and have faith in Obama, I wish he had have received the NPP later in his career when he had actually achieved more. Instead, I feel that some of the merit awarded to Obama is simply attained through comparing him to Bush. Obama has made some great headway in some diplomatic relations and his push for nuclear disarmament is admirable. But, at the moment his efforts have no completely come to fruition, they merely carry a lot of promise.
I agree with you that Bush harmed America's international reputation at a time when some of the gap could have been bridged. But at the same time, I also think that some Americans may think that America holds more importance in the world than in does. Yes, it's very important on a large scale, but it often has very little to do with the cultural or religious conflicts that can fuel international or civil unrest.
I personally think, that this time around, there were other candidates more suitable to win the NPP.
