Just a quick comment in passing...in my experience, it seems to be very damn deep in a lot of people..
But I know what you mean when you say you don't know how someone could feel that way..

It's the natural tendency. Fear what's unknown. Hate what's different. It's just our monkey programming. I mean, it makes sense if the largest scale that you're willing to think of as yours is Tribe. At this level, yeah, nature says be wary of what looks or acts different... cause those aren't *your* genes, pal, or your relatives or clan.

And, hey, if nature can get a Tribe feeling good about HATING a different group, then it's easy to completely dehumanize them, wage war on them, take their resources and make them yours.

Problem is, we're beyond gene-based Tribe, now. We're blown all the way up in scale to the entire human race. Cooperative, out of necessity.

We just gotta fight that natural programming if we want to get anywhere.

*Can't remember leaving the original comment*..Whoops, oh well, I've had a weird month..

Anyway, I don't think it is natural as such, not in the way you mean, not in our programming. People don't naturally hate one another, you just have to look at kids who don't care whether they all look different to see that. It's something we learn, but we learn it at such a young age that it appears natural by now...

And it's so woven into so many people's lives that I doubt it could just be fought against like that...If you fight it it means you don't really ever believe it in the first place..

Woah, I'm tired. Alls I'll add is that yes, like the original poster, I can't understand prejudices like that...not really...
