Back in the U.S.of A. (Warning- venting ahead)

Last night I went out to Rock Ir Grill in Old Town. It made me really miss IReland. Instead of a nice smoke free pub where everyone talks to eachother, since, laughs, buys pints, etc... There was a smoke filled pub filled with rude people in baseball caps pushing around. There was not enough room to stand or sit anywhere. It was hot and just not a ( Read more... )

You know, when I was out of the country, Al had to stop sending me news clips out of fear I would never return.

But just think...if you were in Ireland this week: no turkey, no Wailin' Jennys, no ed & sue thanksgiving, no bridal showers, no seeing your sister...

And now I'm advocating staying in the US...what is this world coming to? That democratic congress has gotten me all optimistic and stuff.

I can understand how you feel- I would just try and remember that a lot of the time when people sing songs- especially catchy songs, which I think that one is, melody-wise- they aren't really paying attention to the words. I mean, they may get the "America is super" general feeling, but I don't really think "yay, war must be awesome, I hope lots of innocent people die." Not that not thinking things through makes it better, but (hopefully), they might not have been meaning all the words, just singing a song to sing a song and feeling like it was no more offensive than "God bless the USA." Granted people should realize words have power, but teaching high school does nothing if not teach you that a lot of people do not realize this. Jerks will be jerks, wherever they are.
