The New England chapter of Busybodies Anonymous

Welcome to the Christmas Break of Germs and Pestilence, Westlake Village Edition! I'm off work until after New Year's, which is great news--not only is LA having Stormwatch!, aka "rain," but my roommates and I have been passing around a fairly convincing cold. It's a good time for hanging out by the fire, watching movies, napping, and having ( Read more... )

muzak, bones, l.a., yum!, movies, big bang

Glad to hear you've been well, other than the cold - don't worry, it's going around up here too. Thus far I have escaped, but my extended family Christmas party fell to the sniffles.

Yes, Erik was always amused by STORMWATCH and all the amazing kerfluffle LA got into when it rained. Not that he was really any different. I've never known anyone more excited by thunder and lightening. But then that's my TX time showing.

I tend to think of Vegas as a source of sociological observation. Like weddings. I agree about flying, but advise you don't follow the usual Fri night-Sun night pattern. Last time I was there, for a TinkerPlots workshop (both times I've been there have been for math business trips, which really is hilarious, I think) I left on a Saturday evening. The airport was totally empty. Several people at the airport even expressed surprise that I wasn't staying over to leave with the hordes on Sunday. But husband and cats vs. Vegas? No contest, baby. ;-)

Ooh, I don't know, I get pretty excited. All of DC thought I was a crazy person, and I never really DID get my fill there--even during the summer, when we had thunderstorms ALL the TIME! Can't take the California out of the girl, I suppose.

Or Disneyland.

Hee, totally--it's especially funny if you know the people involved.

I've never heard of the Civil Wars, but I'm loving this "Billie Jean" cover. Thumbs up.

Hope you get over your epic cold soon!

They're brand-new--their first full-length album comes out in January, though I think you can buy their EP online. And they're fantastic.

Hope you get over your epic cold soon!

Thanks! I woke up feeling much better today (though I did get up at 3 a.m. and fall back asleep with a cough drop in my mouth--worst morning breath EVER, btw), though my poor roommate/fellow sick person ended up going to urgent care this morning. Poor girl!

You know, I think I agree with you, particularly on this point:

It's possible that another course would have been to balance the angst of Booth/Brennan with extra hilarity from the squint squad, rather than the move to pretending like anybody cares about the actual, you know, cases. Or is this what happens when the center doesn't hold? Always winter and never any Christmas? I'm torn. It makes sense, but I'm not certain it was necessary and I'm not sure it was on purpose.

It's not that what they're doing this season isn't bold, or that it's awful storytelling (it's not), or that I think it's not true to the characters we've seen so far. For the most part, I think the story and characterization has been very brave. It's just that they've lost the fun aspect. If I thought losing the fun was entirely necessary and on purpose, I might give them a pass, but I don't. I just miss my fun show.

I miss my fun show, too. I'm not sure whether I'd rather have it the other way around. Maybe? Maybe not.

That cover is AWESOME. Thanks for sharing. I now need to investigate The Civil Wars. Also, the guy looks like a combination of a gazillion people I went to high school/college/worked with at the FNP. it's weird.

Ummm, how on earth had none of your roommates seen White Christmas? That's like, until a few years ago, my BFF had never seen When Harry Met Sally. WTF, world?

I liked Big Bang a lot, too. Dumb Zach is fun, and Dumb Zach who wants to be friend with the boys is even more fun. Also, I always kinda liked Leonard and Penny, even if the majority of BBT watchers did not. So yay for a bit of angst! (You know I love me some angst.)

Hmm. I'd sort of settled on Hobo Johnny Depp.

(I think he does have one of those familiar faces, though. He looks like people to me, too.)

For serious! I don't know--I'm always surprised at what this particular group of roommates has and hasn't seen/done in their lives (of course, they probably think the same thing about me). But hey, now they know.

Dumb Zach who wants to be friend with the boys is even more fun.

Exaaaaactly.

This is always a little baffling to me--I totally enjoy Leonard and Penny, and Sheldon and Penny makes NO sense to me. I loved the New Year's kiss moment, because she wants to kiss him SO BADLY! But can't! Aaaaah! Angst.
