So: remember, a few weeks back, how I said I had visions of being laughed out of various kitchen-building companies' offices with my smallish renovation budget? WELL. Have I got a story for you ( Read more... )

Oh man, that story about the design company. Maybe you could stretch your budget...? Ha! But it does sound like you've got all your ducks in a row. I know this process is going to have its share of hassles, but I think just by a) having the money already, and b) knowing pretty much what you want already, you're ahead of the game by a lot. Just take it one step at a time and try not to let yourself get overwhelmed. Big picture: you're going to end up with an awesome new kitchen! Also, please take before (and during?) and after pictures. It can be your HGTV sequel to the gun cabinet saga.

Also yay for Gordon and maybe Berkeley lawyer guy! Matt is going to have to step up his game to impress me any, though. :P

It's interesting to think about sharing a yard with a neighbor. Sounds like you've got it figured out, though! Enjoy your outdoor naps. (I got Cory a hammock for his birthday last month and took my first nap in it over the weekend. HEAVEN.)

Oh man, that story about the design company. The more I think about it, the more I realize how uncomfortable I am with the idea of this kind of wealth-even though it's not at all uncommon where I live. It's funny, even as I look at people's dating profiles, I find myself occasionally thinking, "You have too much money!" by which I don't necessarily mean that they're bad people, or even that I wouldn't date them, but it's so not where my head is, and I'm so much more comfortable with the idea of having enough to live but not so much that I don't have to think about it. (Though I live so close to the tech community that a lot of people make more than I can honestly even imagine making, which I guess isn't inherently bad? What I mean is, though my own friend group is mostly social workers/museum people/publishing folk and the like, I know a lot of other people in my community make much much more, right out of the gate. Maybe I shouldn't judge them for that.) I hope that if I DID have that kind of money, I would still appreciate simplicity ( ... )
