Did some more reading, maybe became just a little bit syntactically enlightened. Just a bit. Then I had to go to a meeting of my Intro to Syntax group, where we worked on an assignment that also made very little sense. Well, it made sense. Just, I had no idea what to do. Eventually, though, we figured something out. I feel like I'm the group ( Read more... )

Ditto. T_T

I mean, I get some things, I think I finally understand theta roles, and raising infinitives (a bit, mind you), but not any of the other sorts of infinitival clauses, and I really really don't get cases. Like, at all. I know the terms: accusative, nominative, and generative case. That is the extent of my knowledge of these things. T_T I'm not bringing my computer to class, this is how determined I am to pay attention. I will bring a sheet of paper with some info about the cases and gerunds. And a notebook. That's it though. (Also, if by any chance you get this before class, please don't let me sleep through syntax? There is a bottle of water on my desk. Please dump it on me.)

Have a good night, and I hope you get your reading done!

Icon is because I'm sad I haven't had a chance to use it yet. :)

Theta roles . . . I'm sort of getting there. Sort of. Obviously I have a million questions about them, as demonstrated by my previous entry. Raising infinitives, not even a little bit. Actually, I don't understand ANY of the differences between the different kinds of infinitives. I think I more or less get cases, having been confronted with them a good while before now.

I will make sure you come to class, although I can't promise I'll dump all that water on you. Maybe just a sprinkle if I get really desperate.

Icon is <3, of course.
