BlazBlue wikiPersonality: As the current head of the Alucard family, Rachel is a highly-educated, refined, and upper class kind of individual. On the surface she is your stereotypical aristocrat, and it's evident from the way she dresses to her hobbies. She speaks in a highly sophisticated manner, thus resulting in cryptic sentences that more often than not carry thinly-veiled insults for those who understand. Despite her upbringing, she looks down upon others and often talks to them using demeaning nicknames such as "child" or "idiot." Granted, almost everyone could be considered a child in her eyes, but it doesn't make it any less insulting. However, she doesn't carry any actual ill will towards others; she just finds it amusing to toy with them or rile them up. As much as others try to insult her back, it's nearly impossible to break her cool, the only ones capable of doing so being Terumi (someone she actually hates) and Ragna (someone she actually cares for deeply).
She can be snobbish, arrogant, and rude, but she's powerful enough to get away with it. Due to the repeating time-loop and her position as an "Observer," being bored is one of her biggest problems. While usually quiet and reserved, her boredom often drives her to go and pick fights with other people. She acts disinterested, even with her apathetic threats of grievous bodily harm, but with how many insults she'll throw their way you'd think otherwise. Of course, she does know perfectly well how to act like a proper young lady, though she hardly ever acts like it. Even her familiars Nago and Gii aren't safe from her; Rachel tries to use as little physical effort as possible, and as such she uses her familiars to do battle for her, attacking and becoming shields for her. She also tends to beat them when she feels that they're being idiots or if she's simply frustrated, much to their chagrin.
For all her arrogance and haughtiness though, she is a bit of a child inside. Her hobby of drinking tea may seem mature and adult-like, but the snacks she loves to eat with it are not. Sweets and desserts are among her favorites, especially cakes--milk crepes and financiers specifically. She also seems to hate vegetables such as bell peppers and tomatoes. However, what she specifically hates is tomato juice, which may just be an extension of her loathing her vampire instincts. She finds the act of drinking blood to be barbaric and disgusting. Her hair ties often give others the impression that she looks like a rabbit which irritates her to no end. In battle, she claims that she hasn't been defeated but has simply grown bored and teleports herself away. Given her great powers and using her familiars as shields, this may hold some shred of truth, but to others it would appear that she is simply a sore loser.
Above all, she loves her world. As an Observer, she is prohibited from taking any direct action herself which leads her to bothering others in hopes that it will trigger something to break the time loop. To her great distress, her efforts tend to be futile. Her frustration has grown to the point where she once dropped all pretenses of grace and eloquence to punch Ragna in the face and tearfully ask him why he can't learn from his mistakes and break the loop. Being someone she actually cares for, albeit she'd never admit it, it truly saddens her to see him trapped in the time loop. Her own repeated failure to break the time loop has even caused her to question if she is truly fit to be the head of the Alucard family.
Even after losing her position as an Observer, Rachel is a self-centered, proud character who refuses to admit to any sort of weakness or flaw; implying she has feelings for Ragna is bound to earn you a beating, and even after being tricked and defeated by Terumi in a Bad End she continued to insult him. However, at heart she is simply trying to fix her world and help the people in it.
Strengths: Despite having the physical body of a child, Rachel has quite a number of strengths. As a vampire she has a slow-aging body that can even give another supernatural abilities through her drinking the blood of someone else along with somewhat superior strength as demonstrated with Ragna: she both gives him supernatural powers after drinking his blood and proves to throw quite a punch as even he complains at how painful it was.
Physical abilities are not where Rachel shines at her brightest though; instead, one would look at her skills in battle. Even stat wise, she is not the strongest character. However, the techniques she uses during conflicts make her a very good character to play as, and within the actual story she is one of the most powerful people there (if one pays attention, all of her sprites when she's being hit aren't actually her being hit; instead, a familiar takes the hit for her every time). She has control over both wind, which she uses to carry either herself or her opponent to a more advantageous spot for her, and lightning. With the aid of her familiars she can summon lightning rods near opponents so as to electrocute them while they stand near it or even use herself as a giant lightning rod to call upon stronger lightning.
Regarding her familiars, besides lightning rods they also serve to help her in battle as shapeshifters and shields. While their usual forms are a cat-shaped umbrella and a flying fat bat, they can transform into a wide array of weapons: a spear, electrocuting chair, cannon, etc. Her own dress can shapeshift as well and can range from a pair of forks and knives to a drill. She can also summon other familiars such as a frog that hops to enemies to electrocute them or even just a floating pumpkin to serve as a distraction.
Due to the nature of her existence, it is very hard to bother Rachel, both mentally and emotionally. The timeloops she was forced to observe lasted an extremely long time, approximately several thousands of years, so it's safe to assume there's little she hasn't yet seen. While this results in her being bored constantly, it also serves her in a way as, well, you'll have a tough time getting under her skin. Several characters spend their time demanding answers from her or just outright trying to annoy her, but she simply brushes everyone off with a taunt of her own and her infuriating refusal to answer.
She thinks calmly and rationally in even the most dire of situations, such as when Hazama revealed himself to be Terumi and tried to immediately take Noel as the true Azure Grimoire. While she couldn't defeat him there, she correctly called for Ragna to take care of Noel while she ensured that Hazama, at the very least, could not get his hands on her right there. Even when summoning the Tsukuyomi Unit to save Kagutsuchi, an action that would severely threaten her position as Observer, she did so knowing full well of the consequences. Her long lifespan as a vampire combined with the time she's lived through in the timeloops has more or less matured her into a child with the mind of an aged adult.
Weaknesses: As good as it is that almost nothing can get under her skin, the time spent in the timeloops has left Rachel quite cynical. Even though they did eventually succeed in breaking through it, her cynicism combined with her arrogance leads her to not expecting much out of people. Whether or not it's entirely necessary anymore, she goads and taunts her way into ensuring that the others take action, which often makes her out to be horribly cruel.
The amount of failures she has seen has made her somewhat of a pessimist, even with the one success they managed to have. She expects very little out of people and barely dares to ever hope that they could accomplish something worthwhile. Because of that, she often feels the need to do everything herself and still has a habit of not telling anyone anything. It infuriates many around her, like when Hakumen demanded to know why she had so much power but still chose to stay on the sidelines and she didn't answer.
As hard as she tries to be a mature young lady, Rachel is still a bit of a petulant child. When things don't go her way she gets angry rather quickly, though she does her best to hide it. She hates being called by what she considers to be demeaning nicknames like Rabbit (we're looking at you Ragna) and is not above beating her familiars out of frustration, or even people. During one timeloop she ventened her frustration about everyone's failures on Noel by mocking her ruthlessly and reducing her to a sobbing mess, despite knowing that Noel did not even understand what she was talking about. She can also come across as rather defensive as her reaction to someone making fun of something she loves--tea, for example--is to mock them right back.
Worst of all she has a stubborn streak a mile wide, and getting her to admit she was wrong is nearly impossible. Even in her own bad ending where there are signs that she's doing something wrong, she says that she herself must finish Terumi off, and that stubbornness gets her swallowed up by a dark pit of nothingness. Her arrogance and pride makes it extremely difficult for her to ever let her guard down around others, and it's only to herself and a very few close others that she can admit that she was wrong and lament over her own mistakes.
Samples (ALL samples must be set in Luceti-verse.)
First Person: While there are many things I could address as issues of a complete and utter lack of tact--the kidnapping, the taking away belongings, even the undressing and redressing of a lady--there is simply one thing I cannot forgive. You may try to appease us with free lodgings and food, but none of that matters when faced with the fact that there is a severe lack of quality. Honestly, I dare say even worthless familiars such as Nago and Gii could prepare better tea than this place has to offer.
Of course, that would be assuming anyone here is even worthy of serving me; no tea prepared by some simpleton here could be anywhere good enough. However, out of the kindness of my own heart, I shall be willing to overlook such a fact for one, simple thing.
Entertain me, dear Luceti. I am not a hard person to please; all you must do is keep me from boredom. It's a simple request, yes? My daily schedule was quite open back in my own world, and I can only assume it will be even more open here. I believe I will have enough time in my day to mock a fool or two. If not, perhaps I shall make time for it.
I look forward to your attempts. Good day.
Third Person: It was, of course, a problem. Being kidnapped from one's own world would most likely always be a problem, but even without the position of Observer weighing heavily down on her anymore, it was still troublesome to know events could be occurring back in her own world without her knowing. Those idiots she had begun to rely on could do absolutely nothing without her help; of this she was sure considering their rather spectacular failure when it came to stopping that dreadful timeloop. Who knew what might happen without her there?
At least, this would be what she was thinking of as she explored her surroundings, still able to be carried by the wind (but to her displeasure, not as strongly), if it weren't for the fact that half of those idiots were already here. Really, while she certainly expected Ragna and Noel to be stupid enough to allow themselves to be caught, Rachel actually expected somewhat better of Hakumen. After all the trouble she went to to free him, this was how he repaid her: wasting time in another world. When the time came she would simply have to see to it that he was punished properly.
She sighed, long and heavy as she allowed herself to drop gracefully back onto the ground, wings twitching ever so slightly. Honestly, she found them to be a bit of a bother; not only were they not useful for flight, even if they were she already had the means to fly on her own, if somewhat limited somehow after arriving here. The uncanny resemblance between her new wings and Gii's did not get past her unnoticed, and it only served to further worsen her foul mood.
All of that was just a miniscule problem in the grand scheme of things though, for there was only one true reason for her displeasure: Hazama. While it was entirely possible that he was here without her noticing, the possibility that he was still in their original world with only so little of them to stop him was truly a cause for worry. As pleasant as it would be to find some sort of entertainment here she simply had no time to waste; Rachel Alucard would not fail in this.
