[The video feed opens up with Red facing the camera. Pikachu is on his shoulder. It looks like he's filming from outside of his house. A large laboratory building can be seen in the background.]

Hey. It's Red. [He holds up a hand in greeting then puts it down.] Uh, not many people know about it, but it's 'First Pokémon' week. It's when trainers ( Read more... )

Hmm... I started out with a Pikachu as well... but it seems that your journey can be very different, even if you start with the same Pokemon.

[Raichu peers into the screen, and Volkner absentmindedly pets him]

What benefits do you think come from not evolving your Pikachu?

Yeah, I think so too. I've never heard the same story for any trainer I've met. [Red nods. Pikachu holds up one paw in greeting to Raichu.] Uuh... as for why Pikachu is still Pikachu...

[Red folds his arms to think of a good way to respond.] He's a lot harder to hit. After training Pikachu for so long, I have a good idea of what he can dodge. If it looks like the battle will be rough, I usually switch to another Pokémon. So... I guess the answer is just knowing what to expect.

Raichu does have a lot of power, but I can see why sticking with Pikachu could help as well. Hmm.

Oh - right. I met my Pikachu when I was pretty young. I beat my first gym with the move Thunderbolt... and I've stuck with Pikachu ever since.

It's a good balance 'cause all my other Pokémon are pretty big. [Red and Pikachu are still on screen but there's now a Snorlax snoozing behind them. Pikachu hops onto its moving belly.] Snorlax barely moves, let alone fast.

[He looks back at Pikachu having fun then turns back to Volkner.] What's it like raising Raichu compared to Pikachu?

That is a wonderful means of honouring our Pokemon! ^^

Sitara is my first and only. She came to me injured, and after with help from the Centre I nursed her back to health, she decided to remain with me and help me deliver orders. I love her very much.

Hey, Meissa. [Red makes a small wave to the camera. Pikachu recognizes the name and looks at the camera eagerly. (For free treats maybe?)] I actually forgot about it until I heard another trainer say something.

It's good hearing you and Sitara are close. I bet she's glad she's with you. [He smiles then his face changes to one of curiosity.] Those cakes can get heavy, right? I wonder how strong she really is.

Hello, Red!

She is pretty tough. She found May in a storm carrying a package, after all. However I do not have her travel beyond Kanto/Johto, she is only a pidgey. I do worry for her, but she does seem capable.

[Elesa and Zebstrika are lounging together on a chaise longue. They're both looking at the video feed with piqued curiosity.]

So tell me Red... your Pikachu. What does it like?

Hey, Elesa. [Red gives her a small smile and nod. Pikachu perks up immediately with a cheerful 'Chuuu!' and hops off Red's shoulder.] Pikachu wants to answer this one himself so I'll move the camera.

[He reaches over and the screen moves from Red to the floor where Pikachu has spread out a variety of items. As Red narrates, the little mouse holds up one item after another.] That's a light ball. It's got some extra charge in it that Pikachu can absorb, so he keeps it close. There's a bunch of berries that Pikachu likes eating after shocking them a little bit. I've tried one before and it tasted kinda burnt, but I guess he likes it that way. That's a can of lemonade...

Oh... you like tomatoes too, right, Pikachu? [Pikachu nods in agreement.] I guess we don't have any right now. Also, we watch action movies together. He's holding my copy of Swellowman: The Movie... [Red's voice sounded a little embarrassed.]

[Suddenly, Pikachu is seen coming closer and climbing back up Red. The camera jolts a little and is back on the young man and ( ... )

About TIME we get something to rouse the network up a little! How quiet has it even been?

You really think you should let the little guy go that long without evolving, though, kid?

[The Raichu in the background shakes his head. NOPE. SHOULDN'T HAPPEN. EVOLVE THAT SUCKER.]

Hey, Lt Surge. [Red couldn't decide to wave or salute so he winds up giving Surge some kind of awkward mixture of the two as if it were a normal gesture. Pikachu makes a grumpy face at Raichu.] The busy season started up. Sorry. A lot of trainers want to challenge the Elite 4 before summer ended. I think Lance took care of them all, but I still had to stick around.

[He and Pikachu look at each other then back again at Surge.] Uh... he's not gonna die if he stays like this, right?

Pssh. Figures! [Surge folds his arms over his chest.] So I guess that's where just about everyone went! Anyway...

[Both he and Raichu shake their heads in unison.] He won't die, but he sure won't reach his full potential. You've gotta take advantage of that!

Oh... that's good. [His shoulders relax.] We're pretty comfortable like this though. It would feel weird without Pikachu on me somewhere. Raichu looks heavy.

Pikachu, huh? Your Pikachu is the only Pikachu I've seen, but it's such a good Pokemon. No wonder you've had it the longest.

It feels really good to have a Pokemon with you for so long. [He crosses his arms and nods. Yep! Now... trying to think of a question.]

Did you guys always get along so well?

Hey, Tate. It's been a while. [Red gives him a kind smile. Pikachu waves with one paw, happy to see the nice boy as well.] Uh, I heard they're hard to find because they stay away from trainers. Probably good at hiding too; if Pikachu is avoiding me, he squeezes into weird places. [Pikachu rubs his head with embarrassment of this. Red reaches up to scratch Pikachu's chin.] You're right though. I wouldn't trade Pikachu for anything.

[He crosses his arms to think.] Sometimes we don't agree on the same thing, but we try to work stuff out quick. It was tough when we first met because we were expecting too much. We stuck together through a lot, so I think that's how we're so close now. [Pikachu nods in agreement.]
