Leeds guy wants to meet in person. If I go get my book I will be out that way anyway... but if I just let dan keep the book and get another one, I don't have to go that way. What am I supposed to do?

You said one reason you weren't going was because it was a waste of gas. If you meet this guy from Leeds you'll more than likely get at least a friendshiip out of it, and then it's not a total waste of time. And if you really want to piss Dan off...take the Leeds guy with you to get the book. But of course make sure this guy is comfortable with it first. I used to do stuff like that all the time to my ex...and he didn't have a ball sack either.
