So let's begin!
1) Start off with your base, sharpen, crop, do whatever with it. I thought my base was just fine so I didn't change anything.
2) Duplicate your base. Desaturate it (CTRL + SHIFT + U or IMAGE >> ADJUST >> DESATURATE) and set it to SOFT LIGHT at 36% opacity.
3) Now, click either
here or go to LAYER >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> CHANNEL MIXER.
Example for dial-up users:
Now input these numbers:
CHANNEL MIXER:
RED
Red: +178
Green: -90
Blue: 0
Constant: 0
BLUE
Red: -54
Green: +48
Blue: +100
Constant: 0
Your icon should look something like this now:
Same thing? Almost, but no.
4) Now for selective coloring. You either click where you clicked before for channel mixer and pick SELECTIVE COLORING, or go to LAYER >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> SELECTIVE COLORING.
Input this:
SELECTIVE COLORING:
RED
Cyan: -100
Magenta: +20
Yellow: +100
Black: 0
YELLOW
Cyan: -100
Magenta: 0
Yellow: -67
Black: +31
CYAN
Cyan: +100
Magenta: +100
Yellow: +100
Black: +100
BLUE
Cyan: +100
Magenta: +100
Yellow: +100
Black: +100
NEUTRAL
Cyan: +36
Magenta: -14
Yellow: -10
Black: +6
Your icon should look something like this:
5) Now it's time for...BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST!!! :D Either do the same process as before, or go to LAYER >> ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST.

BRIGHTNESS: +10
CONTRAST: +10
Your icon should look something like this:
Think we're done? Not quite.
6) Now for the last step...MORE SELECTIVE COLORING, YAAAAAAAY! =D You know what to do. :)
SELECTIVE COLORING:
NEUTRAL
Cyan: +31
Magenta: -10
Yellow: +30
Black: -10
AND YOU'RE DONE! Your icon should look something like this now:
