Kedron had never lived in a city without electricity. It at once intrigued and terrified him - how were they supposed to survive in the long run like this? He knew vaguely that cities were not self-sustaining, they needed various industries to support them, and this Arcadia place looked about as inhospitable as it got. He didn't think monsters were edible, and he wasn't sure he wanted to find out unless he was desperate. Plus, knowing his luck, they were probably poisonous.
Mogget had said to meet him at the square, and so Kedron was at the square. There were still stray sandwiches and oranges from last night, and he moved between deserted tables, taking the opportunity to scavange.
As he pocketted an orange and resisted the urge to kick a table over viciously, he realised that he was frustrated. He was stranded here, and the computer had been going on about destroyed worlds. It hadn't mentioned Orias, or Cadris Nesilv, or Vrykardor or any of the planets he knew, but that didn't mean much when it had been cut off half way.
...And he realised that he really didn't want to stay here. Not in this damn low-tech city that didn't even work and was overrun by monsters.
