The Art of Writing in 140 Characters or Less

Feb 28, 2011 23:11

A quick question for everyone out there. Would anyone be interested in exchanging user information on Twitter? I joined back in mid-January and for the most part I've found myself fascinated with what people can write in 140 characters or less. If you're interested in friending me (with full reciprocation of course) my Twitter account is here. When ( Read more... )

Eh - some of us who are Le Resistance remain here in LJ-land. Wishing you well.

Whoa Nex, I didn't say I was leaving LJ for Twitter. O_O

If anything has supplanted my LJ writing in recent years it's definitely my work on Damage Control. Neither Twitter or Facebook are suitable replacements for LJ. Unless something serious happens I doubt I'll ever fully leave. I have too many friends here and the depth of writing is unmatched by any other service. (But I will try to be less of a bum and participate more often.)

Ah - no, I didn't mean to imply that you were leaving LJ land. I was trying out 140 characters or less. ;-)

Twitter seems good for networking via organizing "meet me at X at Y time," but otherwise seems just like a fancy 21st century version of the 20th century pager.

Ah, I see.

Actually I consider Facebook to be more for social organizing, as they make the "meet me X and Y time" announcements extremely easy to write. Additionally people can respond to that with simple "yes", "no", or "maybe" buttons, as do things such as "like" stuff, post pictures, etc. All of that data is contained with a simple but visually appealing RSS-like feed service.

I see Twitter as random and extremely short thoughts posted throughout the day. It's for when you want to make a brief point without having to organize your thoughts into a lengthy post. My only fear is that people will start to rely on making brief points about topics in place of thought provoking posts. But considering LJ is still alive and kicking I could be wrong.

Still, I wonder why these services are valued at insane amounts of money (billions upon billions), but that's another matter entirely. ;)

Now Following you!

Twitter is a very different animal to LJ but I'm enjoying it too (I joined late last year) and getting a lot of useful information from various feeds.

Thanks!

Twitter is very different. As someone who likes to go into depth while writing I thought I'd hate the service but it's pretty fun. And it's also a fast way to take in a lot of information. :D

Winter, I haven't heard from you in quite some time and all you reply with are random one-liners. Are you trolling me? :P
