I kind of never want to leave Turkey. Istanbul is incredibly beautiful and four hours going around Gallipoli was nowhere near enough.

Caveat: As with all my previous photos, the only camera I use is my crappy 5megapixel cameraphone, which does not really believe in focus or good resolution. Which might be why I post so few photos. 8D;

BUT. Here are a few! :D; As terrible as they might be! )

;; did you ever watch the movie, Gallipoli? I saw the trenches where the first to third waves of light horsemen were sent right into enemy fire because of a mistiming error and the communications going down, and the valley that the runner had to get through to get to central command. It was crazy different and so strange to be somewhere you knew the history of, and see it all yourself. Like, the way the trenches were just so close to one another and how the hills just drop away to sheer cliffs and tangled valleys. It's so peaceful and beautiful now, it's hard to think that less than a hundred years ago, thousands died right there.

The Turkish monuments were all amazingly graceful and very sober. I sort of want to hear more about the Turkish side of WWI but no books have been published in English about it yet. ;;
