This is an interesting development for those of us planning on traveling internationally...LinkNow I can't decide if I want to renew my passport now before it goes into general circulation or not. In theory, it is kinda cool. In practice, I'm not sure and the paranoid part of me is screaming, "Big Brother

Well, the only information on the chip is exactly what's written on the passport so there's no real difference there... at present.

And to be honest, within the next few years most major countries are likely to follow the US's lead and insist that any traveller visiting them has a biometric passport, so even if you renew now you'll probably have to get another one with a chip in the not too distant future.

FYI the UK has (or is about to) also started issuing them to all people applying.
