Name: Laura
Age: 21
Location: Washington
"Star" sign: Scorpio

ABOUT YOURSELF

Describe your personality in five adjectives: Obsessive, funny (“ha ha” or not, it’s up to you), amiable, affectionate, eating. I know the last one’s a verb, but it does describe me very well.
What are some good points?: I’m understanding, compassionate, an okay essay writer, and I like to think I have a good sense of humor.
What are some bad points?: See “obsessive” above, I’m easily jealous, have oodles of insecurities, not to mention laziness and various anxieties. Oh, and I’m mighty impatient.
What are some of your interests, hobbies, and talents?: Old movies and actors/actresses (of course), surfing on this here information super highway, my pet ‘ships in my various fandoms, and just bein’ an all around nerd!
What's one thing you dislike?: Math!
Are you more unsocial or a social butterfly?: Unfortunately unsocial.
What do you like to do (ex., on a Friday night)? What would your perfect day be like?: Sleep in till noon, then go to a really nice restaurants with friends, and then get rescued from sharks by Clark Gable, Johnny Depp, or the young Leonard Nimoy.
What are some of your goals in life?: I think at this point, finding a job at all. For big picture stuff, I’d definitely like to get married. A billionaire orphan would be wonderful (Bruce Wayne? Not that I’d be that into the whole “gotta save the city by night” thing. What about my needs?).
Are there any political issues or causes you feel strongly about?: I’m woefully uneducated, but I certainly have strong opinions about the whole healthcare debates going on right now.
What are your favorite books?: Lolita, Great Expectations, Princess Bride, East of Eden, Gone With the Wind, Hunchback of Notre-Dame, and any of the Jeeves stories by P.G. Wodehouse.
Your favorite music (bands or type)?: I have a very eclectic taste in tunes, so basically whatever strikes me fancy. I’m in love with the song “Dear John” by I Monster right now.
Your favorite time period?: Not that I’d necessarily enjoy living in either period, but I am fascinated by the Victorian age and the roaring ‘20s/early ‘30s.
Your favorite clothing item (shirt, dress, pants, corset, stockings, garters, fascinator, etc.)?: A tasteful umpire-waisted shirt is lovely. I’ve gotten over the whole “but it looks like I’m preeegnaaaant” thing.
Which is your favorite decade of the 20th century, fashion- or lifestyle-wise?: For fashion, DEFINITELY the ‘20s. Well, except for the penciled in eyebrow look that leaked into the ‘30s. That NEVER looked good on ANYONE. I also like the flapper and decadence stuff going on in the ‘20s as well. Oh, that careless time before crushing poverty set in!
Which cities would you most like to travel to?: I’ve barely left the West coast, so anywhere on the East coast is fine by me. Abroad, I certainly wouldn’t mind the classic stand-bys like Paris and London.
Do you have any style icons or heroines?: Louise Brooks for sure. I also admire Stella McCartney’s work, but my number one fave would have to be the immortal Edith Head. I don’t think that woman was capable of designing an unflattering dress.
Who's your favorite person in the whole world? Why?: My parents because I would be absolutely lost without them. In the world of fame, probably Vivien Leigh. I remember just being stunned the first time I saw her in Streetcar Named Desire. There was something going on inside her, like a storm that you just couldn’t turn away from.
What do you admire most about people?: Their ability to face reality, whereas I run screaming for Mommy.

ABOUT THE SILVER SCREEN

What are your favorite movies?: The Big Lebowski, Bride of Frankenstein, Mad Love, Gone with the Wind, Amelie, Laugh Clown Laugh, Singin’ in the Rain, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Godfather, A Hard Day’s Night, Sweet Smell of Success, 42nd Street… the list kinda goes on and on.
Your favorite classic movies?: A lot of the ones I mentioned above: Bride of Franekenstein, GWTW, Mad Love, Laugh Clown Laugh, Singin’ in the Rain, Sweet Smell of Success, 42nd Street, My Man Godfrey, Rear Window, Psycho, Vertigo, Twentieth Century, any Buster Keaton movies and early Marx Brothers.
Who are your favorite actresses (from any period)?: Vivien Leigh, Michelle Pfeiffer, Elsa Lanchester, Louise Brooks, Lillian Gish, Ingrid Bergman, Kristen Bell, Mia Kirshner, Ellen Page, Tuesday Weld, Carole Lombard, Lauren Bacall, etc.
Who are your favorite actors?: Buster Keaton! Anthony Hopkins, Lon Chaney Sr., Al Pacino, Gable, Cary Grant, Peter Lorre, Ronald Colman, Bogie, Hugh Laurie, Johnny Depp.
Do you think you would enjoy being in Hollywood?: NO. Too insecure and private for all that.
Would you be more of a recluse, an enigma, like Greta Garbo, or a flamboyant socialite, an open book, like Marion Davies?: Most definitely reclusive. I DO want to be alone!
What do you like about past eras of Hollywood? (This can be as brief or elaborate as you like it.): Well, these days everyone is so concerned about making movies as realistic and dreary as possible. At least that’s how it seems to me. And because of that, I feel like movies no longer are very magical, or that creative (with obvious exceptions, like Amelie.) Who these days would have the guts of Busby Berkely, to film dancers in strange patterns and costumes? Plus, people were actually cast correctly those days: Ginger Rogers was hired as the dancer, not a dramatic actress who had no clue how to cut a rug. In other words, movies were newer back then, which means people were taking new risks and were more innovative.
What's a quote that you like by an actor?: “I wasn't a sex symbol, I was a sex zombie.”-Veronica Lake
How about a quote ABOUT an actor or actress?: “She is pure Alice in Wonderland, and her appearance and demeanor are a nicely judged mix of the Red Queen and a flamingo.”-Truman Capote on Marilyn Monroe

ARE YOU MORE

SHY or OUTGOING?: Shy. Very.
VAIN or MODEST?: I’m too insecure to be vain, but too catty to be modest.
STRICT or RELAXED?: Relaxed to a fault.
NEUROTIC or UNTROUBLED?: Neurotic, about some big and stupidly small stuff.
MELANCHOLY or HAPPY?: Depends what day you catch me. If my grades are good and I have cupcakes? Happy. Someone makes some snooty remark about one of my fictional ‘ships? Melancholy.
Desirous of WEALTH or FAME?: Wealth, wealth, wealth.
SUCCESS or ACCLAIM?: Success. That puts food on the table.
AFRAID OF FAILURE or EAGER FOR THE ADVENTURE?: Afraid of failure. Eep.
ETHEREAL or DOWN-TO-EARTH?: Well, I don’t know if I’m either. But as I’m definitely nowhere near down-to earth, I’ll have to go with ethereal.
METHODICAL or IMPROVISATIONAL?: Methodical. I’m very much in a rut.
ARTSY or CONVENTIONAL?:…Mixture of both?
QUIET or UNINHIBITED?: Quietly loud, or loudly quiet.
COMPLEX or SIMPLE?: Wow. I really, really don’t know. I’d like to think I’m complex, but I just can’t be sure.
COMEDY or TRAGEDY?: I prefer to laugh in life, so comedy.
PRIMA DONNA or HUMBLE?: Yeah, I’m a prima donna. Sad but true.
FOLLOWER or LEADER?: Follower. Authority makes my stomach hurt.
FEMME FATALE or GIRL-NEXT-DOOR?: Femme fatale!
Do you do it for A FULFILLING LIFE or IMMORTALITY?: Fulfilling life. This girl just wants to be happy.
