sugar coated history

During the car ride on the way home from psych class on Friday I was thinking about how historical facts are sugar-coated for children. Mike mentioned the Arawok (sp?) tribe that was annihilated by Columbus's crew by disease as well as violent killing. There is always a problem that you know about that is sugar coated. I sugar coat a lot things when it comes to my nephews. I can't them that the world is full of violence when it is , but if I were to tell them that, then they would never leave the house and they will become afraid of everything. Well sometimes it is a good to sugar coat curtain things, but not prevent them from experiencing their ideas towards life.
