Mary Weather kicked her legs as she waited for Drew. It was nice having Drew around, she thought. Not that any of her other friends weren’t nice, but on some level Mary felt more connected to Drew then to the other girls.
It made Mary thing for a moment, in her solitary state in the waiting room. She really hadn’t had many close friends since Eric. No, that was a mistake. Gilford was a good friend when he was himself. That didn’t really leave Mary with many recent female friends though.
Yes, Drew would be a wonderful to have over more often. She wasn’t as stuck up as the rest of the high society girls. Mary liked Drew for that since she didn’t always fit in with the others either. Sure, learning the manners, grammar and education that any high society girl might learn helped, but there were always some things that she never could understand, like the gossip.
Looking at the door, Mary wondered how much longer they might be. She didn’t trust that what the doctor was handing out would work. She knew better then to trust something that sounded to good to be true because most every time, it was. However, Mary decided not to make too big of a deal out of it since Drew looked so happy to be able to get the medicine.
Mary stopped thinking about what could go bad and focused on other things. After all, it wasn’t all that interesting until she could see the medicine or the doctor. Mary looked out the window at the dimming light. She had fun at the party, regardless of how dower her brother was. It was always nice to get out. She hopped that Riff had given Cain the message about where she was going.
Sighing, Mary missed the freedom of being about to going out whenever wished. Yes, the life she had before was hard, but having to tell someone where she was going all the time was very tiresome. She knew that Cain meant well but being able to act her age more would be nice. Thinking on this, Mary stretched out before sitting down again. Maybe Drew could spend the night soon. That would a lot of fun.
