We came out pretty well. No power still, a week in, but no flooding either. I met a boy, too :3

I know you're having a lot of fun on this little adventure, but millions of people wouldn't have to deal with this kind of shit if, you know, _people didn't build cities in bayous in hurricane areas_. Seriously, how stupid do you have to be?

Okay, first of all, the Gulf of Mexico was originally settled over two hundred years ago. It's not Caladan's fault millions are having to deal with it; Caladan didn't force them to live there. That said, people are always gonna live in Hurricane areas. That's simply a fact of life on Earth. So don't go snapping at Caladan for looking on the brighter side of things!

I would hope that heedlessly living on easily-flooded land is not a "fact of life on Earth". We ought to be smarter than that. I mean, tornadoes, sure, you don't know where they'll hit. Blizzards can be hunkered down during with enough preparation, though they're not ideal either. Hurricanes aren't even the only problem here; New Orleans, by fact of it's sea level, should be predominantly underwater!

Though, clearly, people have always been more concerned by the commerce to be had than the hurricanes. Wikipedia says one struck the first year the French built there, flattened all the buildings, and yet they rebuilt! What, did they really think it was a freak occurrence? They must have gotten bitten by too many mosquitoes.

Technically, Kate, we can't build anywhere then. Nowhere around the Mississippi, cuz that floods, and nowhere on the West Coast, because they have earthquakes, mudslides, brush fires, and volcanoes. Nowhere in the North because there's blizzards, and I think you're completely underestimating their destructive power, because hurricanes can be hunkered down through too with enough preparation. If you build the right kind of house, have food and a generator, you're set. You can't build in the Midwest because there's tornadoes and duststorms, and you can't build on the East Coast because they get hurricanes, floods, and blizzards too.

Your logic is flawed, and totally fueled by your hatred for the South.
