Derby 135

So...what the hell just happened?

I am SLACKJAWED. My exact comment to the husband about Mine That Bird before the race was, "If his gate was the only one that opened, he still couldn't win this race." I swear to God.

If it weren't Calvin on him, I'd be irritated. But Calvin can melt anyone's heart.

It was just one of those times when the powers that be heard that comment and decided to seriously mess with your mind. ("Well! We'll show her!)

I was thinking, this is a boring Derby, and then this horse came out of nowhere on the rail, passing everything so fast that the announcer didn't even notice that the race had just been stolen.

Weird, weird race.

I've been watching the video (and rewatching it) and I *still* can't believe the announcer missed Borel snaking MTB through the pack at lightning speed. I'm sure there are jockeys who will be in shock for awhile after seeing MTB blow by them.

No kidding. I never, never, ever could have predicted anything close to that outcome had I handicapped it 845793456924780139472 different times.

I think I've lst respect for Tom Durkin here. I picked up MTB at the top of tha lane and said "Is that effing Borel?

//headdesk//

Yet, damn. BoRail strikes again. ^-^

His reaction is the only reason I'm not really ticked off. It's awesome to see a jockey become delirious with joy like that, especially if it's Calvin Borel. That ride was incredible. Parting of the Seas, Part 2.

"Parting of the Seas, Part 2"

I like that :) I had to watch it so many times to get where I could track him the entire race, and it's like MTB had a force field around him.

Ha ha ha! You weren't alone! We lost so much money on the outcome of that race.

You should head over to my horse racing blog and take a look at my pictures. http://ghostsnapper.blogspot.com

I'm going to have a Derby day overview for tomorrow posted, along with more pictures!

Oh, I've been very anxious to see your photos. =)

The more I watch the replay and the more I ponder the result, I reaffirm that there are no possible circumstances under which I would have even considered him to even hit the board. But I'm actually thrilled with the outcome and hope like hell he runs 'em off their feet in the Preakness!
