I have been a happy user of Verizon DSL for a long time, but starting last Thursday very bad things have been happening. Last night ran some more tests and it semed like maybe my LinkSys switch might be the problem. I know the feeling. When i first got Broadband, it was under MediaOne, and it was great. When MediaOne sold to AT&T, it was HORRIBLE. The first line of tech support was stupid. It had gotten to the point that I would call AT&T, and it took forever, why? Because they had a list of things that they "suggested you do before calling" Problem was, there was NO WAY to bypass this ever long recording. So EVERY time you called, even if you already did all that stuff, you STILL had to go through the recording. Then when you got first level support, they would have you do THE EXACT SAME THING. I used to call and tell them to immediately put me through to second level. I would explain what they were going to tell me to do, and what I had already done, and I would even tell them things that I did that THEY didn't know could be done. Also, first line under AT&T didn't have the ability to ping your modem. So after the guy would realize he CAN'T help me (which usually took a half hour) they would put me through to 2nd level.
