I like some of your picks. The 2x05 scene with Isobel was good. The vulnerability ... I don't think we saw DS expose himself emotionally at all in S3. It's really a stark difference watching his performance in S1-S2 and S3.
Yeah, I hear you about the banter. Do you think ... that maybe because they had to be so EARNEST in S2 because the stakes were so high (life/death) and the regret/longing so palpable that they sort of lost that part of them a bit? OTOH, as you point out, JF captured that bantering side of them so well at the end of 3x01 (at the altar).
In terms of "holding out hope," you were brave to stay away from spoilers, but I have to say, I'm glad I knew going in that he was going to die because that's not something I would have wanted to have sprung on me.
