[Epistolary RP] An Important Notice

May 26, 2011 02:03

A sheet of typing paper is pinned to the bulletin board, a morning or two after Morgoth's attack. There's a message typed on it, though the typing is not quite as precise as usual, and the signature is even more scrawled than usual.TO MY STUDENTS ( Read more... )

Belize isn't a student, but he does spot the note and blinks at it - of course, he's probably had his share of stitches to make since the siege, but he didn't expect Muraki to be affected, for some reason.

He'll eventually slip a note under his door, as follows.

Hey, Doc,

Hope you're just down with a flu or some other little thing. If you need a hand, I'll be dropping by in a couple hours.

Peace,

Belize.

He'll come back to check, in case there's another note, or an open door, or what.

[OOC: There will be other folks for his open post, fear not. ^^]

There's likely a note left behind, written in a shaky hand:

Belize,

At first, with the onset of the summer weather, I thought it might be a summer cold, but it's turned into a series of severe migraine headaches, with an unexplained nosebleed. I don't normally get these, which is why I chose to take a leave of absence for a few days. Perhaps it's some form of karmic retribution, after I was so self-centered, the last time that we spoke. But I certainly would welcome a second opinion: your eyes might see something which I missed.

Your assistance and your friendship are both treasured.

K.M.

Shortly after he got the note, Belize shows up at Muraki's door with a courrier bag in which he's carrying a bunch of goodies and some medication he snatched god-knows-where.

He knows on the door gently.

The door opens a crack and a slightly blood-shot silver eye peers out at Belize. Then the door opens wide enough to admit him.

"Belize... Thank you for coming: I've been the definition of 'poorly', though I likely don't deserve the attention after the last time we met," he says. He looks as bad as his notes indicated: the quiver is out of his hands, but considering how the shades in the room are drawn, he's clearly more sensitive to the light than usual. And despite the warm weather, he's wearing a quilted silk dressing gown over white flannel pyjamas. From the nest of blankets on the couch and the stack of books on the endtable next to it, he's been holed up here.

My dearest master,

I do hope your indisposition is only passing, and that your recovery will be speedy.

If there is any assistance I may bring you in your time of need, I will be available, at your convenience.

Ever your faithful servant,

Master Steerpike.

It might be a day or two later, but a note turns up.

Master Steerpike, my valued servant,

This illness does not appear to be of natural origins, and I think that I will need to reinforce the wards and the shields on my chambers. Something broke through them and attacked my mind. Do you recall the sigil that we painted on the ceiling of the innermost chamber of my work room? We may need to add similar shields to my quarters to prevent a repeat of this incident. Once I have recovered, perhaps we will set to work on this task? Consider this a part of your training, in case the same entity should approach you.

We will discuss this at length when we meet face to face,

Your mentor,

K. Muraki

Another note is slipped the following day.

Dear mentor,

I am at your disposal as you see fit, of course.

Until then,

Steerpike.

Another note appears later that day:

See if you can't get the cupboard in the kitchen to produce a bottle of Migranal. And bring along a pot of green tea as strong as you can make it: I have a feeling that I'll be living on both till this condition subsides.

K.M.
